Reply to Pfhorrest Much as I subjectively agree with you, green being my favorite color, I have a hard time defending it objectively. That doesn’t mean it can’t be done, however.
Some people seem to think that certain opinions, like the choice of color is entirely subjective and therefore it can’t be discussed. They get angry if you dare to suggest that their cherished individual choice may have psychological reasons that originate outside of themselves. Often another color, a different piece of music or even another taste for food might have been an objectively better choice if we had not been biased through our habits.
Since we are used to seeing one color in a particular context, we are unfortunately not able to look at it objectively anymore. Maybe Reply to Wayfarer is obsessed with the Red Scare whereas Reply to Wallows nostalgically remembers his comrades.
To find the objectively best color the site dictator would have to clarify to himself what the purpose of this site might be. Is it just to make the poor members feel good, or is to provoke them to write interesting comments? At least the red color has incited us to contribute to this thread, but that may be a rather unfortunate outcome…
I don't give a rat's ass what color it is as long as it's not teal or aqua. Red and blue are the world's most popular colors. Only .003% of the world's population actually like teal or aqua, and they are all very sick people.
What's black and white and red all over? A burning nun.
Reply to Congau Aristotle should agree that green is the best color because it's the (ironically) golden mean, the middle color, neither warm nor cool, but perfectly balanced.

This is too much psychedelia for me to handle. I shall go to bed now and wallow over this sudden change causing so much distress to @Wayfarer, @Waya, and others.
Yoaw this gr/a/e/y just makes me feel even more boring than I actually am. Maybe this is actually the ideal TPF color though? Boring AF? Or, alternatively, wouldn't it be more ideal to choose a color that makes people think we're less boring than we actually are? Without, of course, slipping to the other extreme and trying to frame ourselves as "red" people (god forbid). What about a nice magenta? Is that back in style yet?? Oh! What about whatever the fuck it was before this disastrous change??

Congratulations on discovering a colour that expresses equally the notions of cancer and diarrhea while dressing its inherent abomination up as an innocuous neutrality. This is surely the colour of evil. I need a drink.

I know how to do a lot of crazy shit with digital audio, but I don't know the first thing about "warm" colors. You might as well have said...any other word. But yeah, it looks like s***.
Reply to praxis Purple is red and blue combined, so you can't hate one more than the other. Identity and whatnot.
But despite purple being the anti-green, it is also acceptably neutral, being equal parts warm and cold, while green is neither. Like a compromise where everyone is equally unhappy, in lieu of a collaborative solution that makes everyone happy. Though this particular purple is cooler than a true neutral magenta... but blue is better than red anyway so I'll allow it.

Purple and green are complementary colors, diametrically opposed on the color wheel. I suppose that 'anti' makes sense, in the sense that combining the two creates a neutral or gray.

Do you know about colors of noise? Warm and cool colors are analogous (or vice versa, really). Warm colors feature more low frequencies and are therefore redder, while cool colors feature more high frequencies and are therefore bluer. Brown is a warm grey, for example.
Was the upper upper part (where's the name of the site, forum, inbox, members etc.) RED TOO? :vomit:
Soo... When will come back those sites which started to play simple musical tunes when you opened the (with crude computer tones)? Or how about moving pictures of various philosophers? Nothing is more annoying to eyes than a site with movement that you don't want.
The purple is really nice. There's something celebratory to it.
It's not so bad.
If you really want to change the template for the action of doing something new (and disregard old conservatives as me and darthbarracuda etc. who were happy with the blue / cyan colors), why not have in similar fashion the reference names (or whatever they are called) in purple tone also and not in red?
As I think I've already explained in two separate threads, I tried different colour schemes in response to a request for a "night mode". I'll probably change it back.

Reply to Hanover when I was a kid, I visited a school friend’s house one afternoon, and noticed that there were three broad bands of colored cellophane taped over the glass, the topmost one being light blue. ‘Yeah’, said the friend, ‘that’s how my dad makes it a color TV’.
Reply to Wayfarer I also remember seeing a B&W TV screen covered with the plastic sheet in 3 colors at a friends house. This had to be in the early 1950s. I couldn't have been more than 7 or 8. Seeing these colored bands pasted over the screen was unforgettable -- I think because it was so extremely unconvincing.
(Real) color TV was demonstrated in 1950 (one system) and 1951 (another system), but color broadcasting was not approved until late 1953 (using the RCA system). A system was used that was compatible with B&W sets, so that color broadcasts could be seen on any television (but few people had color sets in 1954). Apparently people had heard about color TV, and you can imagine people seeing little ads in the back of magazines promoting a way of "seeing color on your black and white television". Interesting irrelevant factoid: If I remember correctly, the color television cameras taken on the Apollo moon landing were the type invented by CBS in 1950. it used a mechanical system of color separation (as opposed to an electronic system developed by RCA). It happened that the mechanical system was far more robust than the electrical separation system and could tolerate the unmediated sunlight blasting the moon surface. The RCA cameras would have burnt out in overly bright light.
This must have been one of the cheaper versions. Not very colorful. Or the color faded over the years.

That is not what my mother said when I painted my bedroom with almost exactly this color when I was 15.
She did not appreciate the orange curtains either.
Reply to Sir2u Throw some azure in there (and especially some green too) and you've got a nicely balanced color scheme. Green grass, azure sky, grapes and oranges to make sangria... sounds like a lovely countryside.

Comrade, the red is OK.
But I'm amenable to changing things to make folks happy.
I associate red with fire alarms, emergencies, and communism.
Ah, so occupational, emotional, ideological and practical. Not aesthetic, though?
We’re not lab rats. I demand more respect. :nerd:
At present, it's decided by the Big Fat Dictator.
Privatise it. Make the choice of colour a user option.
Or do as @Hanover would, and have a vote once every four years to choose one colour that we all have to put up with for the interim.
It’s relatively easy to modify the css code of your browser and override the color, should the red remain and be unpleasant for you, FYI.

It's also often a bloodbath in here, so that's fair warning to the n00bs.

Lmao, why are they sick people? Wattt.
Did China buy us ought? Quickly, time to start a reading group on Trotsky, he knew what's up...
Hey I like it! Better red than dead!
Or my homeboi Berdyaev?
I think I've found it.
What, the color of poop?
Sometimes it's grey.....

(If your screen display colours are set to warm, this literally looks like shit. It's no illusion).
I literally lol'd.

It's all lighthearted fun. Smile.
Aye aye Captain.
Sure thing. Which color is that though?

Ah! Even a condescending remark to the discussion.
Wasn't it blue? Blue was nice. What's wrong with the color? Don't like the color.
FYI.
Oh, I see purple now
Next thing they'll want to change the name of the site. Then the content.
Oh my God!

For me it's purple too. How about Purple rain as background music?
Indeed it was. I initially typed the thread title ALL CAPS but changed it back to title case when the color was moderated.

I'm loving the purple, by the way.

I do. I was a little buzzed last 'eve.

Probably aesthetically superior to the red template, however
Better dead than grateful; or perhaps better both...:joke:
