Call me silly but a family member just received their crypto currency exchange card and woo hoo to the benefits! By locking in a couple hundred dollars for 3 months, you can earn 8% interest on the principal. Depending upon the principal, you are afforded perks that every millennial subscribes to. But the coolest thing about the card is the actual weight of the card because there is metal in it! When you put it on the counter it thunks and when you are handed it, the weight is the first thing you.notice.
The owner said that the weight difference is part of the reason for having one!
How long will it be before the Tooth fairy leaves a crypto currency card under kids pillows?
And one more thing that I have noticed as I am in the final stretch before my oral surgery... How twisted of a message we program kids with by giving them money for losing a tooth but then the dentist turns the tables and charges a boatload of money to put them back!
What a sham!

Let me see, so that makes 100% for political correctness, 100% for college progressives, and now the Tooth Fairy too.

Hey, he was elected by 92,000 Conservative members. Don't blame the rest of us.
But you can blame the plentiful idiots who voted the Tories into power against their own interests, or those who split the Labour vote. If the Tories hadn't have won the last general election, then events would not have unfolded as they did, and we might not have been lumped with Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
Gosh, darn it! I'm making too many discussions again. I also got myself addicted again. Here's the deal, if I make another discussion without waiting a week, I request a ban.
I make another discussion without waiting a week, I request a ban.
Man up and force yourself to do nothing but reading for a week. If that does not work, look for the nearest branch of IFAA. They will send someone to remove your keyboard if the see you making posts.
And before anyone asks, Mr Phil O'Sophy asked us to ban him today because he wanted to leave the site. Eventually one of us granted the request. He wasn't warned of a banning and did nothing to deserve one and wasn't banned for disciplinary reasons.
Alright, we actually remove membership rather than ban on request so that was ill-phrased. Anyhow, I was trying to be resassuring after you took @Michael seriously.
Reply to Purple Pond Oh, come on, surely you know how it works by now. The mods are always right, even when they're wrong. So pipe down and stop being a nuisance, Pondy McPondface.

Okay. Well, thanks for letting me know that. On the bright side, at least there aren't any laws against murdering ponds.
I’ll see you in hell then. And you can tell me what it’s like to be on the receiving end of a shot gun.
I must say dear chap that I really do like your style. Is it a double barrel and what is it loaded with? They say that bird shot dipped in poison works wonders, if the shot does not kill you the poison is too far into your blood stream for them to help before they find out it is there. :naughty: :smirk:
I think Sanders and Warren both did an excellent job tonight; she certainly wasn't eclipsed by him and ultimately they both made a strong argument for the progressive politics they are fighting for against the banal moderates that shared the stage with them. I think Bernie and Warren won the night, followed by Pete, and then Marianne, and everyone else was just fumbling and should drop out.
Yeah, I guess what I meant was that both Warren and Sanders did a great job at parrying off the typical talking points of R's of "socialist", "unrealistic", "unamerican". But, there was definitely more enthusiasm for Sanders in my opinion.
What I found what was most refreshing was talking about actual "issues", and not some bullshitting.
Not a fan of Biden but at least he doesn't pretend to be anything other than a boring corporate Dem with no imagination or ideas. So, he'll probably win and then either him or perhaps a large cardboard cutout of him can run against Trump. (Both are likely to garner roughly equal support, but the cutout will make less gaffes and might be a safer bet). Go Joe 30330!
Reply to Michael Probably just a lack of concern for his well being, not stupidity. Since he was in the news and his offences were so extreme, he would have required around the clock guarding for the rest of his life. I'm sure he knew that.
Do you ever get the feeling that most people don't take you seriously?

Been thinking and wanted to bounce it off of you
I am trying to search back of mass shooter profiles here in the USA to try and find commonality with changes in our society.
Proven example of a change in society, where government tried to help solve a problem and by doing so had unintended consequences. I know a lot of you have seen this before but I ask you to take a longer look.
Before 1965'ish if a person was found to be mentally unstable, they were institutionalized in State hospitals that were built to house these folks. I only know of my Dad's experience of being institutionalized for Manic Bipolarity when he believed he was being chased down the Santa Monica freeway by green men trying to kidnap him. He was treated with Electric shock therapy to the frontal lobe of his brain and was stabilized on Lithium and other meds, was whole enough to return to society, have a third child, get remarried and die a free man.
I know now that had the idea of housing the "insane" would have been necessary for my own Dad had meds not treated him successfully.
My Dad was a success story in the history of sanitariums but I began to wonder where he would be if they had not worked and now I know.
My Dad would be one of the tens of thousands of mentally ill people, many in the demographic of my Dad's, that live on the street.
And it wouldn't be from a lack of love from his family but rather a lack of mental health from the community. I believe that is a HUGE factor in the mental illness we are seeing on the streets, many homeless.
The reason? Because when the US government decided to close our mental institutions, it was promoted that the trade was so local communities could set up counseling centers for sick people to go to, that the private practice Docs would care for their needs and that didn't happen. Leaving us with the unintended consequences of homeless people who might in fact be mentally ill and little way of reaching them because they are too far out of society first mentally and over time physically.
So I told you that so I can ask you this:
Back in the early 90's US schools removed shop class, industrial art, stereotypical male stuff.
Then in 2007 we removed recess from school and"touching" was banned. No more sports during the day, no more small group interaction because there was only one ball and ten kids that wanted to play, any form of self reliance was removed. Boys that used to burn off the extra testosterone at recess are now told to sit still. If that doesn't work than often the child is assessed for ADD, goes on meds or is placed in a special class room. How removed from norm can we make the child?
I am pondering the different facets that makeup these kids that are finding the need to use nonverbal communication in the form of such anger and instability that they feel they have no other way of getting noticed or finally feeling like their voice had been heard in the form of a body count.
Almost but no cigar. The testimony of many people who have insight into their condition and the subsequent adherence to the advice of social workers and even psychologists and psychiatrists prescribing proven efficiency of mood stabilizers has made mental sanitoriums redundant.
This is almost never mentioned despite the ongoing antipsychiatry movement in the US.
Reply to Michael We have had threads about the right to die. Wouldn't a guy in Epsteins's situation be the perfect candidate for assisted suicide based upon the hopelessness of his situation? Or do we have a duty to keep him alive and suffering else be accused of effectively killing him by placing him in a situation to choose suicide? Or must we keep him alive to be sure he doesn't avoid punishment?
I'm just wondering why his death is considered a tragedy. It was his life that was the tragedy.

I think in his case the public's biggest concern is that without his testimony it will be harder to bring to justice all the other people involved in his sex trafficking.

I think it's the case that in most assisted suicide situations we believe that the person in question doesn't deserve to continue to suffer and so they have the right to end their own suffering, but in the case of someone being sentenced to life in prison for committing such serious crimes then their suffering is just – in fact even the point.

I doubt he was ever going to talk. I do agree though that many were worried that an extensive prosecution would result in more damaging evidence being revealed. It might be that without him alive there won't be enough impetus to fully investigate the situation to see if others need to be prosecuted. The solution is to continue to investigate and prosecute others involved because there's no way he was alone in running his island.

This makes the argument that the death penalty is unjust because it's too lenient.
This is cool! They found a new manuscript by Locke, wonderfully titled "Reasons for tolerating Papists" (in other words: "Reasons for tolerating Catholics").
"A remarkable example of classical Egyptian philosophy is found in a 3,200-year-old text named “The Immortality of Writers.” This skeptical, rationalistic, and revolutionary manuscript was discovered during excavations in the 1920s, in the ancient scribal village of Deir El-Medina, across the Nile from Luxor, some 400 miles up the river from Cairo. Fittingly, this intellectual village was originally known as Set Maat: “Place of Truth.”"
Rest of the article details how the Egyptians were likely the progenitors of Greek philosophy. 'Tis good stuff.
Just got back from England. What a crazy place. All the guys are named Stuart and the ladies are named Claire. They can drink all day because the beers don't exceed 3.2% ABV.
English beer is warm and stupid. You also don't put ice in your other drinks which is stupid too. Your lack of universal air conditioning isn't real smart either. These are all important things you might want to bring up with the Queen. A queen, yeah, that's a cutting edge idea.

I beg to disagree. There is a need for mental hospitals, even if it is a temporary stay. I needn't express or expound upon the Opiate/Fentanyl addiction climate we are battling. What I would like to suggest is that there is a shortage of "beds" for mental evaluation across the spectrum. From the ER to short term rehabilitation programs. Without available beds, observation becomes more challenging.
Back to my original idea, I would like to add that we move the age of exspougal of student records from 18 to something nearing 16. There has to be a way for people who are under the age of xx, who have a serious charge on their school records, to give a heads up to the adult community they are entering. To have everything removed as a result of an arbitrary date on the calendar seems to be showing it's shortcomings.

How about a 6 month moratorium on threads about free will. Just put "free will" in the spam filter. Of course, that would screen out any references to "Free Willy" or "Free Willy 2."
In Delaware, if the alcohol content is above a certain level, 6% if I remember correctly, it has to be served in a wine glass. That's what they told me at the Dogfish Head bar in Rehoboth Beach.
The hoppiness, and I suppose alcohol content, give IPA a bite that makes other beers taste watery by comparison.
My son has a strong interest in beer. He trades it and stands in line at breweries for hours to get the new batch. He lets me try all sorts of beers, some weird, some straightforward. The ones I always like are the IPAs.

Thought this was interesting. From "Psychology Today" an unimpeachable source on human behavior
Be careful how much credence you give to any pyschology source in a philosophy setting. I personally believe in the science but I do not believe that is the position of the majority.
Research suggests that less than 4 percent of mass shooters meet the diagnostic criteria for any mental illness."
Which is why I believe we need to look at the nurture/culture that is the "make up" of these shooters rather than mental illness nature/phisiology of the shooters.
I do not in any way wish to cause any confusion with my post when I spoke of ending institutions and the profile of the shooters, I don't see any correlation. I am not suggesting that the majority of the shooter are mentally ill. I am not surprised at the % suggested and it encourages me to keep looking into the nurture/culture of these shooters.

As a former psychology major (Back when therapy was accomplished by bleeding and trepanning) I have respect for the discipline but very little for "Psychology Today." There was a wonderful National Lampoon PT parody back in 1973:
"An Evaluation of the Religious Affiliation of the Pontiff"
"A Study into the Urination Habits of Ursus Arctos"

My post was not in response to one of yours. I just came across the quote and thought it was interesting.
"Research suggests that less than 4 percent of mass shooters meet the diagnostic criteria for any mental illness."
I'd propose adding to the diagnostic criteria questionnaire asking whether one has previously committed mass murder, and if so, then providing the diagnosis "mass murder disorder."
My other thought is that there are many mass shootings being lumped into the statistics that don't belong, which are your typical gang violence or bad drug deals. When I think of fully credentialed bona fide mass shootings, I envision trench coats, orange hair, and scribbled manifestos. I would think mental illness would correlate to those at around 105 to 112%.
Dorian might hit Georgia, and I note no one has extended any concern in my direction. Atlanta is not on the coast, sure, but there is the possibility I might actually know someone in harm's way and I'd expect someone to ask about it.
but there is the possibility I might actually know someone in harm's way
OK, so do you?
But they say there might be 20ft. rise in sea level, are you over that level where you live?
I know a few people in Atlanta, would you like me to send someone over to hold your hand?
On a more serious note, fuck. That is a monster of a weather event.
Some friends and I did some disaster relief a few years ago when a hurricane hit NC. It was a lot of fun, so I'm hoping for another opportunity this year.
Global warming is getting out of hand. Should probably do something about it.
We all know what needs to be done, but no one will do it. We're just all too soft these days and no one is willing to throw a virgin in the eye of the hurricane.
Life's been a bitch as of late... waiting for relief in the Fall~ My oral surgery was tentatively scheduled for 9/11 and I wait.....ranch refinanced, HELOC application submitted and so I wait....
I lost my teeth to the vanity of losing weight on meth and now I have lost the weight and have to buy my teeth back...
Waiting sucks. Holding off on classes until this surgery is hard but I wait...

Hoping for a hurricane because the aftermath was fun is like hoping Biden gets elected because dragging this economy off of the proverbial edge was so rewarding. Yes, winning can be exhausting especially when you have to keep guard of the losers trying to drown you because of any slight success.
Tell me what is wrong with success if it is not at the expense of others?

Meth for weight loss? I can’t tell if you’re kidding.
I am being as serious. I was teased about "blooming" early which was normal for guys but I didn't like the attention. I figured out if I gained weight the guys stopped paying attention to me. That worked out great until at 15 I met this guy who was 23 and liked me the way I was, protected by me and my choices, ill as that might seem.
It was at his older sisters that I found out how he was staying awake so long when I was offered meth.
WOW where had this shit been all my life? I mean damn!!! A very nice side effect of doing meth is not having to eat or sleep for days. In 6 months I went from a size 18 to a size 2. From 180 lbs to 115! Woo hoo!
The thing is that meth weight loss cannot be maintained because eventually, at some point near rock bottom, you have to eat and sleep again to survive. For me it was a year and a half going fast, a gram a day just to function. I never had to pay a dollar for it because of my "friends" but as you can see, I got away with nothing for free.
Today, I am within 10 lbs of my healthy weight, worked my ass off the last two years to get here and now I am blessed enough to be able to afford to have the oral surgery needed to restore my mouth.
I am serious about needing smiling lessons because I have been hiding my mouth for so long but no one, friend, family member nor Doctor is taking me seriously. They are all convinced that I will remember once I have teeth I can be proud of again but I am not so sure...
The thing is that meth weight loss cannot be maintained because eventually, at some point near rock bottom, you have to eat and sleep again to survive.
The idea of using meth for weightloss is batshit crazy. Even dieting doesn't make much sense because it suggests that a new normal can be returned to. Only a permanent lifestyle change makes any real sense, unless of course the weight change is meant to be temporary.

Amphetamines being used for weightloss has been around longer than my 49 years on Earth. My Mother worked as a Doctor's assistant and Pharmacy representatives gave Doctor's samples of new meds, just like they do today only with the knowledge of 50 years ago.
Anyway Mom tried these new weight loss meds and went home, cleaned and organized her house till well into the dawn hours. It didn't end there because my Granny got the same results when she tried them. Mom being an RN now totally understands what the allure of Meth is and that is powerful knowledge when it comes to relating to kids that are tempted ie my kids when they were growing up.
As far as the actual effectiveness of permenant weight loss? Ineffective and counterproductive.

I'm a mere 250 miles from the coast, so I'm expecting to be completely submerged.
Err, yeah right. But I asked about the level above sea level not the distance from the coast. You are actually about that distance or a little less as the crow flies to the nearest point of coast, and it is somewhere above 750 feet above sea level. So I guess you are not going to get drowned unless Dorian decides to go ashore and visit.

What was done to your Mom is an illegal act coupled with abuse of power. I personally would type out what happened and literally wait in the Mayor's office until I was heard and if asked to leave or be arrested, I would Thank them for being given the chance to talk. Walk right out of the Capital straight over to the local investigative news with my story.
Unfortunately here in AZ the public/law enforcement relationship is strained which I realize is not unique to our state but it does not mean that either are entitled to act lawlessly.
I know it's not an easy thing to do, to stand up to the authority that mistreated your Mom but you have what it takes to get through this. Stay strong :strong:

This morning I ran a 5k, followed by 1 hour of kickboxing, then 30 minutes of outdoor circuit training, and then painted my shutters, all before noon. No carbs either. I have this lingering guilt I'm fighting that I've not gone to my other gym to lift weights, but I'm suppressing it by binge reading books on secular biblical interpretation, arguing with the conclusions, and ordering the books on Amazon cited in the footnotes to see how accurate our author has been. The behavior probably emanates from OCD or something, but it's incredibly productive and intense, although I occasionally pass out on my bed from the rigor.
I think sometimes I'm monopolar (as opposed to bipolar), where I'm always manic. In fact, I'm absurdly optimistic, so I don't think there's depression there.
You know, I don't think I ever saw my dad sit still. Maybe I caught this from him.

I never believed in the 12 Step program but I am bummed that I missed out on the anniversary coins for each sober year completed.
The upside of my experience? I have a solid platform from which I can help, with the proper certification, people who are addicted to various substances that they are dealing with.
Do you still think that my crazy is all that messed up?
Reply to ArguingWAristotleTiff I had trouble deciphering conversational English (even though it's my first language), had to construct a personality because I didn't have one, and had to overcome a fear of not being able to tell the difference between reality and fiction, all before the age of 25.

My Mother in law didn't move in the house with them before the divorce but her Yurt in the back yard was complete. No running water allowed in the 200 sq. ft Yurt so in and out of the house for showering and bathroom needs.

I couldn't get past the first word of that article. Fukushima. I mean that's an unfortunate name for a city, radioactive dumping or not. My thoughts and prayers go out to children, father, and mother Fukushimians.
@Michael has his own holiday, so I've created my own. It's called Hanoverhannukah. For eight days we sit in silence starving ourselves, then we dance around a holly bush naked, scraping our legs and scrotums, and once in a frenzy, we rip open a goat and eat its spleen.
Traditionally we stuff our faces full of boiled egg yolks following the ceremony to remind us of the difficult times when all we had were egg yolks to stuff our faces with.
The festival has been described by the liberal press as "troubling." Fuck them.
I'm alright. Just wallowing about as usual. Moved out to my grandma's near LA. It's nice out here.
I'm thinking about moving out to your gradma's house soon as well. Will you be able to watch my dogs when I'm looking for an acting gig? I'm looking for a lead dance role if you know any. I want to do that or be a key grip. I'm not going to any more casting couches though. I'm trying to shake my image as a used up starlet. It's so hard chasing one's dream while being a single mother of 8 with a scruffy beard and a rust nail stuck between my eyes. Hard. So very hard. Just dealt a bum hand I guess.

I have this "yeah yeah, been there done that" feeling, just cos I've read Crime and Punishment and various histories of the revolution, which are all about St Petersburg. Hermitage shmermitage.

I'm glad you at least thought about it. Lake Baikal is on the itinerary. You can stop and watch the radioactive gas bubbling up.
The idea of long rail journeys to nowhere has always intrigued me. There is a train from Winnipeg to Churchill Manitoba that I fantasize about taking. Of course, that's only 2 days. Did you ever watch "Great Railway Journeys" with Michael Palin and others? There was one all the way across Australia. Great show. I had forgotten about it. I think I'll see if any of the episodes are available.
I'm sure if I actually took the Trans-Siberian, on the second day I would say "My God, what I have done."
There's so much of that Soviet junk around. It's become popular again here (along with such things as authentic Soviet ice cream) so most of it's not the real thing.
What does Soviet ice cream taste like?
I watched Tarkovsky's Stalker recently. I don't recommend it.
Reply to T Clark Yeah I love train journeys, though I've never been on a very long one. West Highland line in Scotland is a good one, though it's just a few hours.
Reply to frank Soviet ice cream is delicious, equal to any ice cream I've had. I like Stalker too (for different reasons).
Reply to jamalrob I had a hard time watching it. The message seemed to be that happiness is death. Or that we're too consumed by hatred to choose happiness. Or that we have no faith in ourselves.
Happiness is simple, though. We find it in simple things.

As a songwriter...I feel like I'm living in a musical wasteland...the more you experience, the less interesting it all becomes I guess...what are you listening to?

I'm getting old, I don't know who any of those artists are. I'm racking my brain for what's been exciting to me recently...I was revisiting some Opeth...I just finished mastering my brothers forthcoming "damaged noise pop" record...yeah, mostly stuff that's close to home...idk. It's harder and harder for me to encounter new artists that wake me up and change my musical perspective. Just some sad-sack rambling.

Oh, "Reverse Conversion Therapy" by Arthur Moon is a hot track. In the style that I work in, more or less.
Reply to Noble Dust lol how old are you? Opeth isn't even that old I listened to them a bit in high school. Aesop Rock and CunninLynguists have been around for 20 years

I guess by "getting old" I mean I'm not tracking with any musical trends so much anymore, whether new, or old stuff coming back. Of course I know Aesop Rock...but Opeth was formed in like 1990, so almost 30 years, and still going strong. Eh, I'm about to dip into the third decade..."young" but I feel old as fukk

I think it's just more a product of me being involved in music, ironically. Knowing how stuff is done, seeing old trends come back...When your'e involved with a creative endeavor, it's hard to avoid a sort of "peak" where past that point, new ideas seem uninspiring...idk. I'm trying to stay young.

Why the fuck am I back here. Insidious, philosophy is. Sneaks up on you, and you find yourself reading stuff indoors when you ought be out in the sunshine.
Loads. Jung was quite into it, and I see it as a consultation with the unconscious and particularly the collective unconscious. One has to assume that either the minute randomness of separating bundles sticks (or coins if you must) is harmonious with large events in some way - synchronicity - which is too big a stretch for most, or else, perhaps more believably, that the mind selects from a random ambiguous passage, the meaning it already has unconsciously.
But if it seems to work and one feels a need, like ECT, one may us it even as a sceptical scientist. If you are mathematically minded, try relating it to The Laws of Form. Anyway, it's more accurate than Fox News, and more interesting than astrology.

I've also been dipping my toes into the Jung shallow end, so it all seems pretty pertinent. I read his little book Modern Man In Search Of A Soul, and the first section which he wrote in Man And His Symbols. Just the layman's stuff for now, as I'm not trained in psych. I'm not sure I understand the collective unconscious enough to agree or disagree with your interpretation there.
My experience has been (over the past 2 months or so) that I've consulted and received the same hexagram several times, down to the exact changing line. I guess the reason I find this significant right now is that for a few years I've been in search of what I call a "spiritual practice", something experiential rather than abstract or theoretical; some kind of direct interface with what philosophy tries to rationalize at a hands length away. So this for me, if anything, was maybe a first few steps in the search for this "praxis". Also, as I'm still trying to scrub off the remains of a Christian upbringing, without doing a 180 or disowning that tradition completely, I find the I Ching, at least for now, to have a sort of translucence or purity. It doesn't feel weighed down with baggage. It feels almost purely logical in a paradoxical way, as in the idea of the Logos, or something. I don't know. I'm new to it, and just doing some exploration for now.
But yes, the text is vague enough that you can maybe extrapolate whatever you want out of whatever you're randomly given.
Did you have consultations that gave you pause, or was it more research for you?

Several. It doesn't hit you in the face, does it? There is comfort in troubled times in the idea that even sages must deal with the times, and there is always room for wisdom, but eventually it will tell you gently to get on with your life and deal with your insecurity some other way. As Lao Tzu puts it "The sage lets go of that, and chooses this."

I've been in search of what I call a "spiritual practice", something experiential rather than abstract or theoretical; some kind of direct interface with what philosophy tries to rationalize at a hands length away.
I think many seek something to replace religious practice when they can no longer believe in the stories.
There is a sense of loss - a gap. I think this deserves more than a 'shout out' in the Lounge.
It might be called a 'secular spirituality' - or not. That's another discussion I had some time ago in another universe.
What do you think it is that philosophy tries to rationalise away ?
And how could you have a 'direct interface' with it ?
As @unenlightened suggests just getting on with your life and any insecurities some other way - is the most realistic, direct way.
The question remains what 'other way' would suit you and your life circumstances?
And that is where philosophy might come in handy...
I got as far as realising that it takes daily effort and exercise - not necessarily in either philosophy or spirituality - but in controlling or gearing up the mind for the day ahead.
I was inspired by Marcus Aurelius' 'Meditations' - a long time ago...
Meant to follow up with Pierre Hadot's 'Philosophy as a Way of Life' and ' The Inner Citadel - the Meditations of Marcus Aurelius'.
Also, John Sellars' 'The Art of Living - the Stoics on the Nature and Function of Philosophy'.
Got the books...
Sometimes you just got to work things out for yourself. Find your own way or practice that fits you.
Mix and match. There is no need for absolute labels...
And yeah...put down the books. For a little while.
For a bit of balance.

Experience. "Ow, that's hot"; "wow, that's breathtaking", "shit, I fucked up and she hates me now", "damn, I'm an addict and I don't know what to do", "wow, I thought we'd never reconcile our differences, but 20 years later, here we are"...etc.
What I want a direct interface with is the underlying reality which exists in all of these examples. Words fail. Maybe it's all just a failure, in a sense. But a noble one.
What I want a direct interface with is the underlying reality which exists in all of these examples. Words fail. Maybe it's all just a failure, in a sense. But a noble one.
What? Reality isn't enough for you to experience, contemplate and wonder at ?
Words can sometimes fail to express awesome reality, our feelings and emotions
However, the attempts to share this in poetry, prose, art, music, even philosophy can be magnificent.
Isn't it the creative aspect of processing experience that can thrill ?
Why would there have to be something 'underlying'?

You have to realize that there is truth in the stories even if the stories are entirely untrue. I don't mean this to sound like some profound revelation, but just an acknowledgment that all the information is contained in the subtext, the metaphor, the way the story unravels.
You have to realize that there is truth in the stories even if the stories are entirely untrue.
I understand that not everything is explicitly revealed in a text.
Truth, or someone's version (or perversion) of what might be true, hidden for various reasons.
an acknowledgment that all the information is contained in the subtext, the metaphor, the way the story unravels.
All the information?
What information - about reality or an underlying reality ?
Even if people can read the subtext, it does not follow that they can still believe.
There is a loss in that respect. It's a bit like falling out of love or lust...
So, another love has to be found - to fill the void, to feel something. To deal with life.
Another kind of truth, even if it isn't.
"A reality that underlies" is something purely experiential; you can't rationalize your way into a mystical experience; quite the opposite. It's supra-rational. That's what I meant by saying experience is not an easy way out (as a response to your claim that 'If the idea of a reality which "underlies" is foreign to you, then I don't know what else I can say.' was an easy way out).

Once I went camping and we tried to buy the cheapest food possible and so we bought dried beans. We didn't realize you had to soak them overnight, so we just boiled them for like 3 hours. We went ahead and ate them and they were really crunchy, but we decided to pretend that's how beans were supposed to taste. That worked pretty well. It's something to think about next time.

Cats are the only mammals who can't experience sweet tastes.
It's also possible that no one knows what a cat can taste because they can't fucking talk.
My cat licks the bottom of the container when I'm through eating the yogurt and that's the part that has the sweet fruit on it. She likes the blueberry, I think, but it's hard to know because she can't fucking talk. My dog walked by my chair and lifted his leg and pissed right on it, like it was a fire hydrant or something. I kicked the shit out of him, but he didn't seem to care. Not much bothers Fred, even getting kicked. He hasn't pissed on the chair since, but that's probably just coincidence.

Well maybe your cat likes things she can't taste. If she refuses to speak, then maybe you should give her a good kicking until she does.
I said that a crunch is alright, but it's not as good as a "Ni!". And what I meant by that is that you need to work on your ability to correctly identify logical fallacies.

Then I am SUPER excited about a program I want to spearhead and bring to Phoenix. We have a national need and this program will rock the socks off of who is in need now, move them forward and help keep it from happening in the first place.
Right now I am listing every possible connection from my past and present, that can bring their knowledge, Certified skills, street experience, adults who grew up in dealing with family members who needed help, police officers, grant writers, Drs, RNs, EMTs, social workers, Professors currently teaching at ASU and UofA, Psychiatrists, Psychologist of high risk patients, School district Superintendent, the founder of a community program helping minority children in the city of Phoenix and addiction specialists.
I am planning an invite only meeting to bring together these specific people at our ranch to unveil the program and together brainstorm how to make it happen.

Our target population are people who are in a non violent mental health crisis. I don't think randomness is more likely than the converse, no. But I don't have any hard data, so I'm just pitting my intuition against yours, I guess. Hmmm. But I do think that, if we collectively feel like "there's all these God posts", then, that does suggest a real trend.
But I would count the amount of God-y posts on TPF as, if anything, clearer evidence for a burgeoning God-y populace. Ask yourself: "If I'm roughly 20 years old and having an existential crisis about God-ish questions, where do I turn?" TPF looks mighty decent, if certainly not ideal. Or, conversely, where would you rather turn, if you had these God-y questions? What would be your go-to, as the kids say?

Reply to Banno It's just a bunch of freshman philosophy students fulfilling a requirement for a credit. You'll notice that they usually make one post that tries to put some argument in a syllogistic form and then defend or attack it. Then they are gone. Give it another week or so.
Reply to SophistiCat So why are there now more freshmen philo students doing theology?

Reply to Banno They are not doing theology, they are taking a philosophy of religion class, and apparently their prof offered them a credit for posting on a philosophy discussion board - perhaps this board specifically.

Sunday morning and the Halls of the forum fill...
Who should we celebrate today? :sparkle:
Who has been a "Wise" person in your life?
Any words of wisdom you might remember them uttering?
My Mom always said about being quick to judge other people "You never know what other people are dealing with behind closed doors." :monkey: :flower:
And my Great Grandmother born and raised in Italy would say in frustration with the English language " I don't understand how you can have a shet' on the bed and the dog shet' on the floor."
And my Great Grandmother born and raised in Italy would say in frustration with the English language " I don't understand how you can have a shet' on the bed and the dog shet' on the floor."
I have the same problem. In Italian and Spanish the "i" is pronounced as a "y" or "ee/ea".
I once had to stop an Excel class because the kids were giggling whenever I said worksheet. They were used to saying shit as sheet.
I had to explain to them that the "i" in English is not pronounced "ee" and that if anyone presented homework on a shit of paper they would have serious problems.
The principle walked in as I was erasing and asked in a loud voice why I had "sheet" on the whiteboard. I had to correct her pronunciation as well. They kids loved that part.

Sit down in a quiet but firm place and as you wallow, I want you to write down every thought that makes you want to retreat to the safety of the limbo wallowing encourages. When you think you have exhausted all wallowsome thoughts, you may get up and get on with your day. BUT the first wallowsome thought you have, sit right back down at your list and write down your thought. Do this every time, just for today, force yourself to exhaust all wallowsome thoughts and write them down, all day long.
Let me know what you come up with at days end either here or in private but you must try this, you must be stronger than your thoughts that are keeping you stagnant.
Peace to you my friend as you overcome this :sparkle:

Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can't and won't compromise. I know, I've tried to deal with them.

I feel safe and comfortable when I wallow. It's nearly irresistible to go into that phantom realm.
I realize that wallowing feels like a safe place but you are IN a safe place here, so there is no need to wallow. Wallowing is a coping tool but has a time limit in it being useful and if one is not careful it can be a way of disengaging.
Trump: I'd like some voters.
Evangelicals (dementes vesanosque): We'd like some power and glory.
Deal. (y)
More like:
(White) Evangelicals: We want to keep our power and glory and against rising political and egalitarian-based demands from changing demographics (minorities) and increased secularism.
White evangelicals (and it's important to make a racial distinction) are working within what they consider to be an existential crisis, so it's not surprising that they are ideologically tethering themselves to Trump's destructiveness and crass, despite his fully displayed sinfulness.

Name the following song (w/o the use of the internet) based on the following lyrics:
"I sit here on the stairs
'Cause I'd rather be alone
If I can't have you right now, I'll wait dear
Sometimes I get so tense but I can't speed up the time
But you know love there's one more thing to consider
Said "woman take it slow and things will be just fine"

This is not going to help me heap love on you I can tell you.
In all honesty, the guy might be a thug running the Russian government as a well oiled and efficient gang; but, you got to hand it to him for keeping things in order over there.
Interesting side note, the Panama Papers estimate he is the first trillionaire in history.
Hm, a search for the word "walllowing" gives over 1,000 results. Almost all of them you. So, if we were going to ban you for that, it probably would have already happened. At least don't use the worry as an excuse for more wallowing.
Just out of curiosity, for those moderators who use the ignore feature, do some members go unmoderated? I mean, how are the moderators supposed to see an unsuitable post by a member when that member is being ignored? :chin:
Fair question. Theoretically, that could be an issue, but in practice we don't all ignore the same posters, we see them when we're on mobile anyway, and we use the feature sparingly.
Also, if they're flagged or raised in the mod forum, we're going to look.
Suppose you somehow have the job of writing a new national anthem for Lithuania, but you dont know where it is or anything about it except that they might export linen and they might be Slavic.
Your song is like: "Lithuania, Lithuania, you're so great Lithuania..."
Which plot twist would you choose?
1. They love it and you become a hero of their people. They lavish gifts upon you, a lot of which is bolts of linen fabric.
2. They hate it, but their dictator carries a lot of resentment over shit from his childhood, and he adopts your anthem in revenge. This leads to a massive cultural meltdown that accidentally triggers WW3.
3. They hate it so much they decide to assasinate you via the Lithuanian version of James Bond, except it's a woman. So you flee all over the world trying to escape her, only to end up in the Congo where you finally turn to face her in a scene that's just a touch too poignant until she...

This is pretty cool - a recollection written by F. A. Hayek of Wittgenstein - his (second) cousin! (I had no idea!). One of the most interesting parts was that Hayek noted that Wittgenstein had in 1939 threatened someone with a poker over an argument - 7 years before the far more well known incident with Popper (which took place in 1946)!
"It was at the end of one of these meetings that Wittgenstein quite suddenly and rather dramatically emerged. It concerned a paper which had not particularly interested me and of the subject of which I have no recollection. Suddenly Wittgenstein leapt to his feet, poker in hand, indignant in the highest degree, and he proceeded to demonstrate with the implement how simple and obvious Matter really was. Seeing this rampant man in the middle of the room swinging a poker was certainly rather alarming, and one felt inclined to escape into a safe corner. Frankly, my impression at that time was that he had gone mad!"
I actually had you in mind when creating it for this forum. I remember a while back in the old forum, in the shout box, you mentioned that you liked that name.
Thanks for that SLX. It seems the man was oozing with magnanimity and charisma apart from his towering intellect. The takeaway for me was (their) confession to being influenced by Ernst Mach.

Happy Thanksgiving!
I realize that this past year I have been out more than in but change is hard but necessary. I have been working, assembling the network of people who posses the skills or are working in the field I need to draw on to spearhead the social program I am working on implementing here in Arizona.
I am also scheduled for my oral surgery on Wednesday December 11th and I am scared shitless about the pain I am going to have to endure without any Opiates post op. I have successfully made it ten years sober from Opiates and there is no looking back. :strong:
But OMG! What the hell am I going to do? What if the pain level is unbearable?
I have searched my face to face friends and family, I have discussed ad nauseum my fear with the Dr. who told me ten years ago I would die if I didn't get off of Oxycontin, I have interrogated my Pharmacist about options he may have seen people use for Post op and I have asked/mentioned on FB several times to my 70 friends my fears and I still feel completely unprepared for this and I really need to talk to someone who has done surgery and Post op without Opiates. If anyone here has been where I am going, please let me know in PM or here.
Of all the friends in my life, you all here, are where I turn when I need blunt honesty and no platitudes which is all I can find.
Please know how very Thankful I am to call you friends and feel The Philosophy Forum is my virtual home for my heartfelt, honest friends in life.
I love you

I am surprised that your dental surgeon hasn't discussed alternative pain relief medication or strategies.
No wonder you are scared if this issue hasn't been sorted out.
I don't often share personal details here. However...and this is going to sound bonkers...there was one memorable occasion where my anxiety re effects of anaesthesia was alleviated by a nurse tapping me.
I didn't seek out this treatment but a ward nurse hearing of my previous bad experience asked if I would let her try to help. In addition to working for the NHS, she was a private practitioner - this was a freebie.
Despite my general scepticism in such matters, what could I lose ?
Well, it worked. My level of fear declined dramatically. No idea why. Probably psychological.
But hey, as long as you feel better, right ?
Ah, Tiff that sounds heavy. I think you're absolutely right to avoid the opiates. I know there are alternative forms of pain relief out there. I'm not qualified to recommend any but seek and ye shall find. And best wishes. Let us know how you progress. :hearts:
And so you should. Even if you spend too much time wallowing" in I don't know what", it is my belief that everyone here still loves you to a certain extent. Hell, the forum would not be what it is without all of its members.
Reply to ArguingWAristotleTiff Just looking for perspective: I think Trump was trying to destroy Biden's reputation with false allegations. Doesn't that make you gulp?

Reply to frank I am holding my fire to see what shakes out of this.
To me, the idea (as opposed to a fact which I don't have all sides of this allegation on) that in all arms of our government there is a give and take, which is what I call it, is NOT a new practice so I am not surprised that when looking, one will find, politics behind every politicians choice.
When we put a microscope on Trump we find he wants something for something, not just since being President but decades before in being a real estate investor, that is where he invested his time.
When we put a microscope on Biden we find he too wants something for something, in politics, for decades because that is where he is invested his time and connections.
Having said that: what do you believe are to be a/the "false" allegations? I'm not looking for a point by point (unless you wish) but more of an overall feel. :sparkle:

We can tell from stories reported by a guy named John Solomon that the plan was to accuse Biden of suppressing investigations into Ukrainian corruption (with the implication being that Biden's son was involved in said corruption at a company called Burisma.
The State Dept. says the story is a fabrication. I know politicians lie all the time, but Trump has an advantage that he's not supposed to use: the power to bully others because he's the president.
Anyway, I know you've got other things on your mind. BTW, I had all 4 wisdom teeth removed and didn't need any pain meds post procedure. I hope you have the same luck.
Lol I have asked my kids since they reached puberty "Are we acting like we are 4 or 35?"
And overtime I got an answer of one or the other age till I asked my husband. When I asked him I got the answer of "Five, I am acting like I am 5!"
Which made me bust out laughing knowing he always has to have one more than the rest

An artwork of an overripe banana duct-taped to a wall that sold for $120,000 (£91,000) has been eaten by a separate performance artist.
Have I ever mentioned how much I think art is bullshit? Why would anyone pay £91,000 for a banana duct-taped to a wall? Some people have more money than sense.
Art divorced from aesthetic value tends to work by retroactively creating the conditions for its own success. If it's presumed to be worthwhile enough to be placed in a certain context (or even if it gets placed their be accident) it prompts the proliferation of justifications for the placement in the relevant crowd. And that whole process of pulling itself up by its own bootstraps becomes the real justification for its designation as art. Maybe the only one.
Or I guess money laundering. I hear that's a big thing in the art world.
Laundering money was much easier when my Indians lived here at the ranch. It paid a lot better too! Just no credit cards please

Wednesday December 11th at 9am Central Time is my surgery. Any energies, prayers, thoughts or monies would be greatly appreciated
I was under the impression that I was going to be put out like when you have your tonsils taken out.
Oh no, this is "conscious sedation" ??????
The anesthesiologist Rod said he will keep me away from the pain but they need me to respond to a degree. WHAT flippin degree are we talking about?
So since no Opiates he said he is going to try to not use Narcotics...WTF????
Then he lists off the medicine he will be using and I am a little bit more at ease:
He is going to essentially be my mixologist:
Phentanyl, Propophal, barbiturates, Verced, Celebrex to relax the facial muscles and more that I am not remembering at the moment but I have heard enough of these medicines being abused by music stars and more so I backed slowly off the ledge of "conscious sedation" back to being asleep during the surgery.
I'm excited, scared cannot sleep and walking in a fog trying to make sure I have my post op care prepared. NicK, my Mom and Dad will be there for the surgery and alternating between to be here for my after care.
I love you guys! And if I happen to not wake up, I leave my Philosophy books to @Banno and my personal Diares to @unenlightened
Closing my eyes..... Oh and @Hanover you can have my beloved rabbit. Just promise to keep him safe.

Are you taking good care of your rabbit or is she taking good care of you? The funny thing about rabbits is how they like to snuggle deep away into those nooks and crannies. They do bring so much pleasure though, or so I hear. I've often thought I might be replaced by a rabbit. They tend to be a more reliable friend, always there when you need them.
OK, TIFFF :worry:
Where are you?
What's happening?
How did things go?
I know you don't want to speak, but at least tell us that you are alright.
I am here at the ranch.
I have been moaning a LOT.
I am able to be up for about 30 minutes and down for a couple hours. Lots of nausea. Would LOVE some flipping Opiates! But I am not taking the prescribed pain meds for fear of addiction.
The surgery went well until I had to pee. OMG I had to be brought up out of concious sedation, wheeled into the bathroom and then return to surgery. I look at the anaesthesiologist like okay let's go, back to sedation and well I was awake for too much of it.
Anyway, today I am going for my second post op visit and my youngest Indian who is home from college is getting his Wisdom teeth pulled.
Men were not designed to support such things, most of would do anything to stop the missus from doing it.
Take advantage while you can, moan about all of the things you cannot do while you recover and see if they are not done for you. :smirk:

Now, years later, I've acquired the "holy grail" of his oeuvre; his final, incomplete novel, The Witch, at an insanely affordable price (only one edition exists). I'll believe it when I see it...

Bleh, so much fan service. I still enjoyed it though; I went in knowing there was no way they could realistically pull off a finale that would actually be compelling.
I had received a royal summons to pay a call on the sovereigns of my country. The invitation was made of lace, framing embossed letters of gold. There were also roses and swallows. I went to fetch my car, but my chauffeur, who has no practical sense at all, had just buried it. “I did it to grow mushrooms,” he told me. “There’s no better way of growing mushrooms.” “Brady,” I said to him, “you’re a complete idiot. You have ruined my car.”
"Wigner's Friend" reminded me a bit of the twin paradox, though they're very different.
The former is still very specific in setting and results, where this title seems rather more broad, exaggerated, sensationalist:
Decade starting strong with 1M held in dystopian Chinese concentration camps, England in disarray, Australia is on fire, and USA is going to War with Iran

And life goes on as normal for all of those farcebook, twatter, and other such "social" media addicts.
Maybe when someone actually throws an EMP device at the USA they will wake up to reality and notice that it does not contain kartrashians.
Maybe when someone actually throws an EMP device at the USA they will wake up to reality and notice that it does not contain kartrashians.
It doesn't contain the Kardashians? Ohh @Benkei has been holding out this information from me. Who else knows this? :brow:
Also as a side note: with all the known consequences and unintended consequences of having an effective EMP deployed on a society, there is a light of hope after such an act. :sparkle:
In many ways our society would appear to regress but a complete reset of the current technology would be a challenge and nothing brings us closer as a people than a challenge. A common goal of bringing back our society, the value of our seniors knowledge of how to do what they once did and a people rising like a Phoenix from the ashes. :fire:
I have faith in you and me,.that setbacks we may encounter along the path of life will only encourage us to rise higher. :hearts:

Tough conversation with my Junior attending a University with roughly half of the students in attendance being in the ROTC program. In our discussion of the current events in Iraq, we talked about what the appropriate response would have been to the attack on our embassy as opposed to what it was.
He rarely lets me go a day, sometimes an hour, without reminding me who I voted for and the plan he ran on. President Trump ran on ending senseless wars and not getting us into another war, to reduce our military presence around the world but is sending more troops out?
Having 30 yrs on him I try platitudes like "Life happens while we are busy making plans". Then when I try to defend the move, I am met with the reality of the words out of my child's mouth which is "You realize that if we send in 'troops' that we are sending many of my classmates who will be graduating in May to war?" :yikes:
I thought we were just one terrorist lighter today than a few days ago.
How was Suleimani a terrorist? Somewhat weird to dismiss talks of war while ignoring the fact that Trump unilaterally decided to assassinate a prominent military commander of a foreign government.
Are we at war? This board is all lit up with war talk. I thought we were just one terrorist lighter today than a few days ago.
Hmmm...our children being prepared and loaded into the back of a military plane all in matching outfits? They are going to look pretty funny if they are headed to a beach holiday. For the last decade many have returned in the back of a cargo plane only dressed in silver boxes draped in American flags. Are we not at war?
Mmmmm.... pretty sure we are at some form of physical interaction with some folks that don't like the USA and our presence in other parts of the world.

Yeah I mean as he should since, not for nothing, you voted against his future.
I respect both your opinion and his but I did not believe that I was voting against his future. Discussions and debates with him have made movement possible in myself and my positions but as I told him "change is hard and happens slowly if it ever happens at all."
But I am open to movement and he is as well which is fundemental to a real debate as opposed to cherry picking for an argument win.
He was classified as a terrorist in April of this 2019.
The Trump administration designated the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, a branch of Iran's armed forces, within which Suleimani was head of the Quds Force, a unit within the IRGC, a terrorist organization in April 2019. As a response, Iran's Supreme National Security Council designed the US as a state sponsor of terrorism, and US forces operating in the region as "terrorist groups". So does the US sponsor terrorism, per the SNSC? Are US troops in an around Iran terrorist groups? And again, how was Suleimani a terrorist?
I did not believe that I was voting against his future.
I have no doubt you believe that, but you nevertheless voted against his future. And if the last several years haven't provided enough evidence for you to that point then I don't know what else to tell you. Maybe don't hide behind vapid platitudes?

Reply to Baden He's survived a barrage of vapid attacks for years, I don't think they have much more to throw at him other than ersatz nonsense. The sexism angle seems to have failed, the latest Reuters polling from Janurary 15-16 shows that Sanders has retained his voter backing % from last week and is ahead of Biden by 1 point (Warren decreased by 3 points).
There will be intense attacks from the MSM, CNN especially. They've already started on a sexism angle. It's going to be tough.
MSNBC just had a "body language expert" attempt to explain to Joy Reid that Bernie's body language after the debate proves he's lying, so they have nothing on him lol
Clinton is piling in now. "Nobody likes him". I think she means insurance companies, Wall St. and the rest of the establishment parasites she failed to win the honour of representing. Also trying to revive the sexism smear. Anyhow, her opposition will be great for Bernie in the general should he make it there.
Mitch McConnell has got to be just about the most contemptible person on the planet.
At the moment, they're still debating rules; democrats are submitting motions for debate (pertaining who and what can be subpoenaed, and when). Schumer introduces the motion, the motion is debated, and then Mitch moves to table the motion (to ignore it). The votes all go 53 (R)53 - (D)47...
Mitch wants "arguments" to take place before witnesses and documents are introduced (which as far as i cang ather is about making it harder for the Dems by keeping them more in the blind).

I found out one of my favourite artists and watercolor illustrators, Qing Han (Qinniart) died today. I'm weirdly pretty fucking sad about it, probably because she was so incredibly young, and because I knew she's been sick for a while but didn't really think she'd actually pass away. Anyway, here's some of her art:
The point is obvious: your life won't change if you do the same in Poland as you do in the US. Stop acting stupid.
I understand that.
My plans are to make a stay in some sanatorium and then move to someplace in Warsaw or nearby Bia?ystok working out some issues and stuff, whilst working. It's an easier life than here in the States, regardless.
Not to further piss on your parade but a fully independent life in a completely new country is likely to be harder not easier for someone with your issues. Why don't you try some online work that you can do in the US and still keep your disability allowance? There are sites where native English speakers can teach English online, for example. No experience required. When you are actually doing something for yourself then maybe move onto something riskier. In other words, build up your confidence a bit first before doing anything dramatic.
Well, I have citizenship in Poland and have lived there for some 10 years. Speak the language and know the people; so, it's not something entirely new to me.
My mom is OK with the plan and thinks it's good for me to move out.
Feels to me like you're just throwing all your chips on red for want of a better idea.
No, it feels more calculated this time around. In the sense, that I've given my best here in the US, and have some financial backing on this stay in Poland.
Baden makes a lot of sense, but I also think if you feel energised by it into taking some action then it’s a good thing. Action is always worth it I think.
Saw this story in the headline news just now. Peterson was hooked on benzos years before his wife was diagnosed. The benzos were prescribed for autoimmune disease?? The restricted diet makes sense in dealing with an autoimmune disorder, but to go all beef sounds like a publicity stunt, or the benzos had distorted his mind too much by that point.
Having recently been studying autoimmune disease because my wife’s developed a form of thyroiditis, I’m guessing it was stress and a failure to identify autoimmune triggers that lead him down this path. In any case, the benzos were stupid. The diet was stupid. And it looks like the treatment he got in Russia was profoundly stupid. But who knows what the facts really are with people like Peterson.
I'm not in Thailand. I want to be but there isn't a visa that would let me stay long term.
What do you do when you're there. I just asked a friend the other day, about what he would do in regards to the above, and he pretty much said the same story I've been hearing about living abroad in Thailand or the Philippines.
I don't have a degree, so no work visa for me.
Still, on a guaranteed 1k USD a month, I could comfortably live in Poland in some city nearby a bigger hub.
I used to do visa runs, which allowed me to stay on holiday visas and waivers for long periods. That may be more difficult now. However, there are always options if you really want to make it happen. You can (as far as I know) get a student visa to study Thai, for example, and attend a minimum number of classes etc.
I used to do visa runs, which allowed me to stay on holiday visas and waivers for long periods. That may be more difficult now.
Yeah, it's what I did when there for 6 months a few years ago, but they seem to have changed the rules now:
British passport holders arriving by air or land can enter Thailand for 30 days without a visa (a ‘visa exemption’). If you need to stay longer, it’s possible to extend your stay once for up to 30 days. You must apply for the extension before your visa exemption period ends.
You can only enter Thailand through a land border using the 30 day visa exemption twice per calendar year.
The limit doesn't apply if arriving by air, so technically I could fly around SE Asia every every couple of months. I could be a digital nomad roaming between Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam.
The issue of taxes is also a bit confusing. If I'm working away from the UK for more than 6 months then I don't pay taxes in the UK and I'd only pay taxes in Thailand if I work for a company in Thailand or if I earn money that I then "bring in" to Thailand, which isn't really explained. Does that mean having a Thai bank account? What if I work freelance online with money paid into a British bank account?
I don't think tax and visa laws have really caught up with the digital world of work.
The limit doesn't apply if arriving by air, so technically I could fly around SE Asia every every couple of months. I could be a digital nomad roaming between Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam.
Wow, that takes quite the amount of determination. It must be a special place or something.

Whenever a thread is created asking for advice of some sort, I assume it's a round about way of trying to get me to weigh in. In the future, you can just ask me directly. I really don't mind.
Since you've not identified the problem as a where issue, I don't think moving will matter. My guess is that wherever you go, you'll be with yourself, and that seems to be where you've diagnosed the problem. On the other hand, since the current where issue isn't terribly positive either, it probably won't cause more damage if you're with yourself in the US, in Poland, or in Timbuktu. Then there is the issue that no one really is depending upon you here or there, which means you could go back and forth from the US and Poland at your whim and that wouldn't matter either. In sum, this major life decision can be done and undone and no one will be helped or hurt by it, so it doesn't amount to a hill of beans what the hell you do.
Well, it's a big decision for me at least. I don't travel much and don't like the whole idea of moving out and stuff. I'm quite unsure of the purpose of moving out. As you noted, it could be some neuroticism to ask for advice on such an inconsequential decision.
But, I have hopes that it is more than that. Since I don't plan to come back to the US, I suppose the point here is to ensure that my stay is as long and beneficial to me as possible.
Does your current living situation constrain you in any way from exacerbating your psychotic tendencies? Change can be stressful, especially if it upsets the way you treat yourself, changes in medication or the impulse to self-medicate. Your ma might play a role in admitting you during episodes. If you're living alone you're going to have to rely on someone else, unless you are in full control of knowing when you ought to admit yourself to the hospital. I can't imagine your new neighbors will like to take on that role by default.
Uhh, I'm on injections now and another antipsychotic.
It's my imperative to not encounter another episode and I think I have the right plan to do so. Getting in touch with my emotions will play a huge role too in addressing the psychological aspect of the malady.
And I also think spending less time here obsessing and pontificating how rational I am would also help...
If you have Polish citizenship, you could try Ireland. Many Poles here (we're staying in the EU) and much better social welfare and minimum wage than the UK.
(Btw, just put this stuff in the Shoutbox in future. I've done it this time.)
I think, it's time for me to shut up and think a little more.

Ffs. No need to kick the guy when he's down. I'm not a fan of his political views, but if you take the blinkers off, he's not that bad. And even if he was, what he's been through recently would be punishment enough.
Holy shit was this a two weeks of total something.
Was again in a psychiatric hospital but this time in some shady shit neighborhood. Like the population consisted of hooligans, homeless, Skid Row, and some bloods.
Now time to decompress in someplace I can call home for the time being.
For about 2 weeks I literally lived on no money, and actually considered going on the streets.
I actually scoured the CIA FOIA database for information and found something related to communist agents operating in the country. I then sent that document to MON, an equivalent of the DOD in the US. They sent me a response to send the information in Polish format, indicating they never had that sort of information.
When I go back to Poland, subconsciously I will feel like a hero.
It took my sanity but I can die a satisfied man...

I'm seeing the same here in Arizona and there is a generation of voters that are not happy it and are going to flip shit when they complete the "rightful position" that Joe Biden has 'earned'. It is almost like the government gives out Presidential nominations are like companies used to give out gold watches.

I was going to go down to the morgue and put on a hazmat suit and dance around a bunch of empty Corona bottles and post it on YouTube and see if it goes viral.
OK, so now the whole country has closed the schools and I can stay at home for 2 weeks.
But now I have the job of teaching the staff how to set up and give classes on-line in 1 day and acting as a support for them while they are working at home.
And it pisses me of because it is something I have been pushing for since years ago.
But I am going to do it because it is the only way I see to not lose my Easter vacation.
I would like to join you!

It's possible. We're doing record numbers this week at work, but it's clearly more ominous than anything. It's a bizarre feeling. And I don't feel safe at work, or on the subway. I'd rather be ordered to stay at home, but at the same time, working hourly, I want to hold on as long as possible. It's kind of a sick position to be in.

Yeah I feel for ya, I'm fortunately able to work from home but given Cuomo's recent declaration I ran out to get some bottles of bourbon before they close the liquor stores.
Reply to Noble Dust The food game is very strong, given the Sunday moratorium on restaurant delivery I ordered Greek. Excellent as always.
Red Hook is cool, I've been to Hometown BBQ a few times, the Ample Hills there, a few great breweries in the area as well. Lucali's isn't too far either.
I had some really good Venezuelan food in Astoria years ago.
I live 10 minutes away from Lucali, but I've still only been once. Definitely some of the best pizza though. I also live super close to Defontes, old school Italian sandwhiches. I like Red Hook because it doesn't feel like New York, but maybe that means I should leave...
Reply to Noble Dust I've been wanting to go to Defontes for a while, maybe when this whole thing passes I'll finally go. I feel the same way about Astoria, but I also still like going into the city and whatnot. Good to get a bit of both worlds.
Defontes can be a mixed bag; my recommendation would be to skip the famous Nicky's Special and just get the Italian Combo instead; it's way better. Less is more.
Yeah, living and working in Brooklyn is nice because I can go to the city if I want on my own time...I usually end up there about once a month, which is nice.
I've been having Huel for a couple of years now and I have a couple of extra bags right now, and they say they're not going to experience long delays in shipment, so I'm all set for food.

I wanted to watch something brainless and terribly made, so I decided upon the Atlas Shrugged trilogy, in which there are entirely different actors per movie, and it was funny to think how Dagny Taggart's railroad would have been decimated by coronavirus and how she absolutely would have asked for a government bailout. At one point she tells Galt that she will cook for him and clean his house to make money and there's no way a COO knows how to do housemaid work.

But she is bright and a quick learner.
I have never managed to sit and watch all of the movies. I usually see a part of a movie, maybe the middle bit, one day. Then I see another bit or two over some months or years. I cannot remember the last time I saw a complete movie from beginning to end. It was probably when I took my very young daughter to see Harry Potter. she is 27 now.
Where did you find the movies? Maybe I will get desperate or drunk enough one of these days to watch them.
Cut the grass today, again. Then I cut the sister in law's grass across the street.
I am so fucking bored and tired of being caged up.
Have you considered having sex with your sister in law across the street? That'll mix things up. I don't mean to be rude with the suggestion, just brainstorming, hoping to help out a brother in need with a solution to the doldrums.
I buy whole chickens and then cook them and eat them over the course of a few days. All I eat is chicken. Sometimes I eat beans with chicken, but then my cat starts licking the bean juice and I don't want to push her away because I like my cat. My son will come home and ask if there's any food, and I'll say there's chicken, but don't eat the beans because the cat licked them. He'll pick out the cat hairs and eat the beans, but not all the beans because I think he's put off by the cat licking them.
Then I go across the street and have sex with my sister in law, you know, just to mix it up. A man can't live off chicken, beans, and cat stories. He really can't.

That's a horrible thing to suggest. We're social-distancing for a reason you know. Gotta wait for the virus to die out first and then we can get back to fucking our sister-in-laws. Although maybe not across the street. Unless you bring out a mattress or something that would really hurt.

Can people stop bypassing the 'What are you listening to right now' thread and posting their music every which where. unenlightened has been especially guilty of this recently I've noticed
I've been thinking of trying to say something about this. I'm sorry if it annoys you, but it is part of my philosophy that there is more to life than words and thought, and that images, and poetry and particularly music can sometimes communicate the unspeakable. You don't have to listen any more than you have to read, and I usually make it a supplement to a more verbal contribution. Wittgenstein said a perfectly adequate philosophy could be composed entirely of jokes; I don't go that far with songs, but they are useful to me and occur to me as I read, not as something I am listening to. They are in fact part of my thinking response to a thread.
The coolest part of my day today was when @Hanover accused me of wanting Boris Johnson dead by trying to feed him the Trump™ anti-virus cocktail, chloroquine.
The coolest part of my day today was when Hanover accused me of trying to assassinate Boris Johnson by trying to feed him the Trump™ anti-virus cocktail, chloroquine.
The danger of that concoction is that you might cure him. There's pretty solid proof it works. To quote Trump: "“I feel good about it. That’s all it is: Just a feeling. I’m a smart guy... I’ve been right a lot. Let’s see what happens.”
To summarize the 6 points he made:
(1) He feels good about, (2) that's it, (3) it's just a feeling, (4) he's a smart guy, (5) he's been right a lot, and (6) the proof is in seeing what happens.
Points 1 and 3 reference the power of positive thinking, #2 references holism and his ability to see the forest and not just the trees, #4 is an appeal to authority, #5 indicates his prior success record and the strong likelihood he hasn't just yet lost his mojo, and #6 is a direct reference to the scientific method.
If his hunch is right, which it really could be, it's going to be proof that God is completely fucking with us by elevating him to actual superhero status.
I haven't actually read that one, just know it takes place at the south pole...do enjoy the Lovecraft mythos though, just now finishing up The Dreamquest of Unknown Kadath. :death:

Going to work everyday in NYC at a wine shop (an "essential" business) is getting pretty taxing. The only reason it's classified as essential, as far as I'm aware, is because of antiquated NY liquor laws that prohibit grocers from selling wine + spirits. Thus making us "essential"... and seeing the bourgeois of the neighborhood waltz in, as they work from home, and ask detailed questions about wine pairings, as if nothing was happening. I feel like I'm risking my neck for some bullshit. Eat fucking rice and lentils like I do. Breaking the "the customer is always right" rule is becoming more and more attractive.
Is it painful to live in the middle of nowhere and become totally fixated on the life of another society? A ghostly, sterile love affair?
Is the pain a symptom if a lack of recognition? A lack of definition to the self? Is it a desperate, flailing attempt to claw one's way ouy of oblivion? To escape the event horizon (as I heard it put)?
The Tiger King documentary on Netflix is the craziest thing I've ever seen
Some of it was pretty funny too. Like the guy who Joe hired from the Walmart ammunition counter to be his campaign manager. Campaign manager was his dream job but it turned out to be "horrible, horrible, horrible" working for Joe.
Reminded me of Grizzly Man, and figuratively speaking in Joe's case, they both ended up being eaten by the preditors that they enjoyed hanging with so much.
Anyway, yeah the Walmart kid was funny when he said he was a libertarian but then said he'd happily comply with the Feds. Felt bad for him when the other guy accidentally shot his brains out in front of him tho.

UBI, FTW.
Biden Baden what's the difference?
i is the difference.
Where sex offenders go and whether they receive protection is at the discretion of judges (I think).
I'm just wondering why his death is considered a tragedy. It was his life that was the tragedy.
I think in his case the public's biggest concern is that without his testimony it will be harder to bring to justice all the other people involved in his sex trafficking.
Quoting Hanover

Well, I’m opposed to the death penalty, albeit not for that reason.
I know, but now you should be in favor of it because you've just argued that it's more humane.
I don’t see how that follows.
Also, only took 4 hours in the end.
Why'd it take you 30 or so years to make that bad decision?
I'd say they average 4-5%. Also our pints are bigger than American pints.
English beer is warm and stupid. You also don't put ice in your other drinks which is stupid too. Your lack of universal air conditioning isn't real smart either. These are all important things you might want to bring up with the Queen. A queen, yeah, that's a cutting edge idea.
Clearly you've never been to the UK. Our weather is air conditioning.
It's @Borg. Anyway, it's about a year since @Bahman was banned and I don't remember why. You could try the bannings discussion.
He might have been banned before that discussion started. I can only speculate that it may have been low quality. But I really can't remember.

Wow is that really you? :fire:
But nevertheless it is not Hanover's face.
Maybe try again on a cheek? :eyes:
Just might be you... similar fingers :joke:
For legal reasons I wasn’t allowed.
You guys don’t like IPA? They have it on draft just about everywhere in S. California. Double or triple gets up to 10%.
Fair enough. How about disclosing who is in the picture...hmmm? I have an amazing memory and would need to file it away under "Awesome" accordingly. :starstruck:
Same in NYC
I would think that not knowing who the Borg are would be a banning offense. If Timeline were still a moderator, you'd definitely be OFD.
Don't drink ale so don't pay attention to it.
But yes, we have it, considering we invented it.
I don't see the appeal of all these craft beers that taste of grapefruit.
And plums and cherries and red wine and pickles. I'm no konoyseyer. I just want my beer to taste like .... beer.
In Delaware, if the alcohol content is above a certain level, 6% if I remember correctly, it has to be served in a wine glass. That's what they told me at the Dogfish Head bar in Rehoboth Beach.
Same here, they can’t serve a full pint if the ABV is too high.
Boy, the forum is full of moderators tonight. This morning.
It appears "Emphasizing the Connection Perspective" was deleted. Reason? That was a really productive thread for me.
Also - is there an established feedback thread we are supposed to use for these types of questions?
"Research suggests that less than 4 percent of mass shooters meet the diagnostic criteria for any mental illness."
Differ.
Don't forget, "Aliens Vs. Free Willy", "Free Willy: With A Vengeance", and, "Free Willy and The Prisoner of Azkaban".
"Much Ado About Free Willy," "Free Willy, the Bad, and the Ugly," "Free Willy Also Rises." That's it, I'm done.

Thank you for the correction.
So how is life treating you these days? :flower:
Be careful how much credence you give to any pyschology source in a philosophy setting. I personally believe in the science but I do not believe that is the position of the majority.

There was irony in my comment.

You?
I'd propose adding to the diagnostic criteria questionnaire asking whether one has previously committed mass murder, and if so, then providing the diagnosis "mass murder disorder."
My other thought is that there are many mass shootings being lumped into the statistics that don't belong, which are your typical gang violence or bad drug deals. When I think of fully credentialed bona fide mass shootings, I envision trench coats, orange hair, and scribbled manifestos. I would think mental illness would correlate to those at around 105 to 112%.
Video games plus sociopathic?
OK, so do you?
But they say there might be 20ft. rise in sea level, are you over that level where you live?
I know a few people in Atlanta, would you like me to send someone over to hold your hand?
Huh? Atlantis is already submerged, silly.
Just buy yourself a scuba diving kit. You'll be fine. You can live "unda da seeeee", like in that film. You'll be surrounded by beautiful mermaids.
Global warming is getting out of hand. Should probably do something about it.
Some friends and I did some disaster relief a few years ago when a hurricane hit NC. It was a lot of fun, so I'm hoping for another opportunity this year.
We all know what needs to be done, but no one will do it. We're just all too soft these days and no one is willing to throw a virgin in the eye of the hurricane.
I like most have the same question about where the mermaid vagina is. Beauty only gets you so far.
I reckon it's under one of her armpits.
It'll be fine. We have paper straws now.
I'm doing my part by holding my breath and not letting the CO2 out.
I shall certainly try in earnest and see if that works. If that does not work, I will try in Ernest and see if that works.

OMG I just saw the Waffle House Hurricane Index for Atlanta and dude I would be heading West if I were you :worry: I have never made grits before but I am sure someone out here has.

Have you tried like this?
Sorry to hear about your dental issues, and I hope it all turns out well. Implants or whatever can be very expensive.
Quoting ArguingWAristotleTiff
The idea of using meth for weightloss is batshit crazy. Even dieting doesn't make much sense because it suggests that a new normal can be returned to. Only a permanent lifestyle change makes any real sense, unless of course the weight change is meant to be temporary.
Hiya Shamshir! It's a pleasure to meet you and Thank you for your suggestion. I must say that it has been a long time since I've seen a banana posted in such an innocent way!
You are so very sweet~ Thank you for your kindness~ Waiting is better than....argh patience is not my strong suit :eyes:
Err, yeah right. But I asked about the level above sea level not the distance from the coast. You are actually about that distance or a little less as the crow flies to the nearest point of coast, and it is somewhere above 750 feet above sea level. So I guess you are not going to get drowned unless Dorian decides to go ashore and visit.

Gym closes at 6 on Saturday, so just gotta hold off one more hour...
Anywho, it beats your meth pipe. We all got our crazy I guess.
I do hope that I was clear that Meth is an addiction dragon of which I slayed almost 30 years ago.

I'm thinking about moving out to your gradma's house soon as well. Will you be able to watch my dogs when I'm looking for an acting gig? I'm looking for a lead dance role if you know any.

As a songwriter...I feel like I'm living in a musical wasteland...the more you experience, the less interesting it all becomes I guess...what are you listening to?
*soars*
I'm getting old, I don't know who any of those artists are. I'm racking my brain for what's been exciting to me recently...I was revisiting some Opeth...I just finished mastering my brothers forthcoming "damaged noise pop" record...yeah, mostly stuff that's close to home...idk. It's harder and harder for me to encounter new artists that wake me up and change my musical perspective. Just some sad-sack rambling.
Just tell me what you want to know.

I wanna know it all, buddy. And I'm asking if anyone's consulted the I Ching, not you.

Most sensible thing you've said in a long time. Hang on, why am I back here? Supposed to be in bed.
Nice, what's your profoundly incisive take? What practical knowledge can I gleen from your subtle I Ching interpretations?
Do you have any thoughts on your experience?
The most practical thing you could garner is to measure the rhythm of things, to guide your decision.
If you're a composer that should be quite helpful.
I am up for the task. I will bring harmony to this battle between the believers and the non-believers once and for all. Call me the Prince of Peace.
Rest in peace, sweet prince!

Oops lost my coffee over this post.
Prince of Peace eh?
Oh and it's Sunday so now is the time to get ahead of the game since a lot of the believers are not present. :snicker:

Can you elaborate?
Do you mean some other way than consulting it?
Putting down the book sounds good to me; I think I get the idea.
Quoting Noble Dust
If the idea of a reality which "underlies" is foreign to you, then I don't know what else I can say.
That's such an easy way out.
A better way would be to explain what that means for you.
But then again, you think 'Words fail'...
Experience is not an easy way out. I trust experience will avail itself to you over time; difficultly as it always does.
I've explained what that means to me.
Who said it was ?
You're playing silly buggers.
It's simple, so anyone can use it - and because it's simple, it can match any complexity, as it grows along with the user.
Even if I gotta smack it silly. :100:
You have to realize that there is truth in the stories even if the stories are entirely untrue. I don't mean this to sound like some profound revelation, but just an acknowledgment that all the information is contained in the subtext, the metaphor, the way the story unravels.
I understand that not everything is explicitly revealed in a text.
Truth, or someone's version (or perversion) of what might be true, hidden for various reasons.
Quoting Hanover
I think I can see a little of the I Ching's flexibility in the contrast between your interpretation and unenlightened's. The plot thickens. Good stuff.

Again, you can't rationalize your way into a mystical experience...
My issue with rice and beans is threefold: 1, canned beans are more expensive than dried; 2, dried beans take forever to make, and 3...its not exciting, so whenever I make it I dont eat the leftovers...so then I just eat out instead and I've suddenly spent too much money, and now I'm back to square one...and the fridge is empty...
It’s not rationalizing. The article talks about meditation and such stuff.
I'll take a closer look, was running out the door this morn. I read "according to studies" and responded. lol. Low post quality on my part...ah well, tis the shoutbox
No one doesn't love a good crunch, right?
Le wut
It's also possible that no one knows what a cat can taste because they can't fucking talk.
My cat licks the bottom of the container when I'm through eating the yogurt and that's the part that has the sweet fruit on it. She likes the blueberry, I think, but it's hard to know because she can't fucking talk. My dog walked by my chair and lifted his leg and pissed right on it, like it was a fire hydrant or something. I kicked the shit out of him, but he didn't seem to care. Not much bothers Fred, even getting kicked. He hasn't pissed on the chair since, but that's probably just coincidence.
Maybe yours can't. You must have one of those less evolved cats without arms and the ability to speak.
Quoting Hanover
Well maybe your cat likes things she can't taste. If she refuses to speak, then maybe you should give her a good kicking until she does.
I said that a crunch is alright, but it's not as good as a "Ni!". And what I meant by that is that you need to work on your ability to correctly identify logical fallacies.
Or get Huel. It's pretty much 80% of my diet now. Cheap, nutritious, tasty, quick, and convenient.

I would say I hope it will work but I am doing my due diligence in researching the programs history, assembling a good starting group of friends and family and this is a "hill" that I would proudly die on. I wonder if it's a reflection of the spiritual makeup of the moment, this proliferation of Christian-esque topics.
More likely it's just random movement of folk around the net.
I don't think randomness is more likely than the converse, no. But I don't have any hard data, so I'm just pitting my intuition against yours, I guess. Hmmm. But I do think that, if we collectively feel like "there's all these God posts", then, that does suggest a real trend.
How do you know?
No similar developments elsewhere? O rly?
But I would count the amount of God-y posts on TPF as, if anything, clearer evidence for a burgeoning God-y populace. Ask yourself: "If I'm roughly 20 years old and having an existential crisis about God-ish questions, where do I turn?" TPF looks mighty decent, if certainly not ideal. Or, conversely, where would you rather turn, if you had these God-y questions? What would be your go-to, as the kids say?
That makes sense.

You can DIY. But that was my one and only time.
It also helped that the anaesthetist listened carefully to my concerns and changed type of anaesthesia accordingly.
Grateful every day for all who care.
:sparkle:
Ah, Tiff that sounds heavy. I think you're absolutely right to avoid the opiates. I know there are alternative forms of pain relief out there. I'm not qualified to recommend any but seek and ye shall find. And best wishes. Let us know how you progress. :hearts:
And so you should. Even if you spend too much time wallowing" in I don't know what", it is my belief that everyone here still loves you to a certain extent. Hell, the forum would not be what it is without all of its members.
:sparkle:
And Frank, I would be amiss to not say Thank you for your friendship this past year, I feel blessed that you have choosen to stay awhile here at our virtual home. A home where we choose to come because we like our fellow "thinkers" and we like the parts of us being together nurtures. :flower:
Thank you. :D. I hope you had a good Thanksgiving. I ate Mexican.

@Spirit12 is a fake account set up by Mark Dennis, which is why we banned him. I don't have any evidence that he was also @Jake.
Adults Can and Do Have Tantrums
Lol I have asked my kids since they reached puberty "Are we acting like we are 4 or 35?"
And overtime I got an answer of one or the other age till I asked my husband. When I asked him I got the answer of "Five, I am acting like I am 5!"
Which made me bust out laughing knowing he always has to have one more than the rest
Then after FED EX arrives today, with the check for my oral surgery next week, I am hand delivering to the surgeon with a tin of cookies. Yes, I feel the need to endear the Doctor with my baked goods along with a $36k check. :100:
And yes, I am in fact bleeding money at a combat zone rate so smiles will be my gift to all this year, allowing me to be around for many more holidays to come.

Have I ever mentioned how much I think art is bullshit? Why would anyone pay £91,000 for a banana duct-taped to a wall? Some people have more money than sense.
Don't throw the baby out with the banana.
Or I guess money laundering. I hear that's a big thing in the art world.
Laundering money was much easier when my Indians lived here at the ranch. It paid a lot better too! Just no credit cards please
I have 2 dogs and a cat, and as the birds and gerbil can attest from critter heaven, animals of prey do very poorly in my house.
How are you going to wake up, they said they were not putting you to sleep? :chin:
Don't worry about it, tell them to play your favorite relaxation music then sit back and enjoy it.
I'll take care of the rabbit.
I don't think she means to put it into a pot, or on the barbecue pit! :worry:
Nahh. Properly cooked rabbit tastes good. :snicker:
Besides, that recipe was far too simple. Not even a few herbs.
Yes I am totally here! I shall leave you my bunny but take good care of him if something were to happen to me tomorrow. :flower:
BTW since it is already tomorrow in Australia, how did my surgery go? It is scheduled for 18 hours from now.
And there is proof that the people in the future will not necessarily be any further ahead of us. :chin:
Where are you?
What's happening?
How did things go?
I know you don't want to speak, but at least tell us that you are alright.
Glad your here man. I really appreciate the Philosophy of Logics by Susan Haack you suggested over at the old PF.
My first year in uni right there. Where's @ArguingWAristotleTiff?
 it hurts to laugh or smile
:smirk:
Sounds like the little rabbit is keeping you company.

"A toast to 2019, what the fuck was that?"
Bright smiles  Collectively we as a people are in the middle of a major generational change but together we will meet this challenge and question it for years to come.

I am still trying to figure out what I missed that could explain what the world has become over the last decade.
Bleh, so much fan service. I still enjoyed it though; I went in knowing there was no way they could realistically pull off a finale that would actually be compelling.
THE ROYAL SUMMONS
I had received a royal summons to pay a call on the sovereigns of my country. The invitation was made of lace, framing embossed letters of gold. There were also roses and swallows. I went to fetch my car, but my chauffeur, who has no practical sense at all, had just buried it. “I did it to grow mushrooms,” he told me. “There’s no better way of growing mushrooms.” “Brady,” I said to him, “you’re a complete idiot. You have ruined my car.”
The former is still very specific in setting and results, where this title seems rather more broad, exaggerated, sensationalist:

https://imgur.com/IcxhWyC
:hearts:
He rarely lets me go a day, sometimes an hour, without reminding me who I voted for and the plan he ran on. President Trump ran on ending senseless wars and not getting us into another war, to reduce our military presence around the world but is sending more troops out?
Having 30 yrs on him I try platitudes like "Life happens while we are busy making plans". Then when I try to defend the move, I am met with the reality of the words out of my child's mouth which is "You realize that if we send in 'troops' that we are sending many of my classmates who will be graduating in May to war?" :yikes:
From the mouths of babes.... :broken:
Why didn'I think of that? How about: to stop following @Hanover's wife. Or even better: to stop @Hanover's wife following me.
She's been an ex for some time, and if she's now following you, I am assured there is a just god.
Are we at war? This board is all lit up with war talk. I thought we were just one terrorist lighter today than a few days ago.
How was Suleimani a terrorist? Somewhat weird to dismiss talks of war while ignoring the fact that Trump unilaterally decided to assassinate a prominent military commander of a foreign government.
Yeah I mean as he should since, not for nothing, you voted against his future.
Now that makes sense! Coming from Chicago I can relate to being subjected to ethnic shake downs, pay for local protection and not much choice in the matter if you live within their turf.
He was classified as a terrorist in April of this 2019.
Quoting ArguingWAristotleTiff
I have no doubt you believe that, but you nevertheless voted against his future. And if the last several years haven't provided enough evidence for you to that point then I don't know what else to tell you. Maybe don't hide behind vapid platitudes?
Yes, platitudes are no longer available to me and if my indian takes the course on "Rhetoric" at school, I am screwed.

Unless you rot at home all day in Warsaw.
Usually, one isn't able to foresee the future, so I don't see the point of this assertion?
In any case, I would most likely be able to live on my own and be financially independent of my family and mother.
That would seem to be a good step forward in my view.
What makes you think it's a gamble?

That's what I want to do but I can't find the right kind of visa for Thailand.
Come to think of it, this is normally what I do, and it hasn't worked out terribly.
What do you do in Thailand?
What do you do when you're there. I just asked a friend the other day, about what he would do in regards to the above, and he pretty much said the same story I've been hearing about living abroad in Thailand or the Philippines.
I don't have a degree, so no work visa for me.
Still, on a guaranteed 1k USD a month, I could comfortably live in Poland in some city nearby a bigger hub.
Couldn't you do that whilst teaching English, or is that too much?
I used to do visa runs, which allowed me to stay on holiday visas and waivers for long periods. That may be more difficult now. However, there are always options if you really want to make it happen. You can (as far as I know) get a student visa to study Thai, for example, and attend a minimum number of classes etc.
Should have cleaned his room.
Yeah, it's what I did when there for 6 months a few years ago, but they seem to have changed the rules now:
And that's your problem.
You don't pay tax.
You'll never get rich thinking like that. :chin:
That is the all out best reason to be happy, just because you are.

This is really what concerns me. You are not broken my friend. Maybe down, maybe out but you are a positive force in life. Stay strong :flower:
At least we didn't have to watch the super-delegates give the nomination to Bloomberg over Bernie. That would have created a wide-spread meltdown.
And Hi!!!! Hope you're doing well.
I do wallow quite a bit.
Do you wallow sometimes too?
Wallowing is healthy and sometimes necessary.
I would prescribe some healthy wallowing...
Why not use your words instead?
As a millennial I find that repulsive.
have you considered using a photo of this cute baby pig wearing rain boots as a possible avatar? (Unless of course you’ve already used it... )
I originally planned to leave entirely; but, I need to get over my ad hoc generalization tendencies.
I might post a little more sporadically or something ...
I treat this website as an alternet form of Stackexchange for philosophical questions.
Cheers.
We have enough crackpots as it is.
:vomit:
Thoughts?
I hope you go viral.
It's not like Russia ain't the most beautiful, largest, and most promising land in the history of human-kind.
Why can the Chinese multiply to 1 billion, and Russia has stagnated to 144 million for such a rich an naturally amazing country...
For fucks sake.
Yes, it is that.
I give it the greenlight. Thank me later.
But now I have the job of teaching the staff how to set up and give classes on-line in 1 day and acting as a support for them while they are working at home.
And it pisses me of because it is something I have been pushing for since years ago.
But I am going to do it because it is the only way I see to not lose my Easter vacation.
Fuck?fuck.
Isn't most of it inhospitable?
Like 4chan?

PMQs: Boris Johnson agrees to meet opposition leaders to discuss universal income proposal
Hilarious that the Conservatives are finally realising the benefits of Labour policies. It's almost like there's a good reason they're sought after.
People are overrated. Buy some puppets or something.
Yes, right-winger are frantically rushing to suck at socialism's tit now for a simple reason. It works. Slow learners.
Hang in there! :flower:
I would like to join you!
Your dark sense of humor appeals to my other side. Like the thoughts I occasionally have about the yappy wired hair terrier the next ranch over that just won't give it a flippin break :zip:
I got so pissed off after a week of only being allowed out for a few hours that I got up this morning and went to cut the grass.
Next thing you know I will be volunteering to wash the windows. AAaaaahhhhhhhhh.
Let me out.
The worst part of that scene is playing against a mirror and still losing.
The California governor just issued a Stay at Home for the stay, and I wouldn't be surprised if we are next.
Apparently we count as "essential", so business will continue...
Stocked up on non-perishables today, and am about to pickle a bunch of veg. Somehow pickles feel like the antidote.
Do you mind if I ask you where you work
At a wine shop in the Bed Stuy area. You?
Ah yes, as the old saying goes..."I love Astoria! But I never go there..."
Hahaha yes I hear that all the time, but maybe for the best
The food game is/was strong, though, but I guess that's on hold...
I live in Red Hook, and I feel like there's a similar reaction to my area as well.
Odd to because the OP was wondering why I hadn't responded, @Benkei hadn't responded and some other small biz people.
Any idea what thread I am talking about?
Also why are we not being notified in our notification of our name being @ to flag us for possible interest in participation?
Anyone?
Bueller?
This?

But she is bright and a quick learner.
I have never managed to sit and watch all of the movies. I usually see a part of a movie, maybe the middle bit, one day. Then I see another bit or two over some months or years. I cannot remember the last time I saw a complete movie from beginning to end. It was probably when I took my very young daughter to see Harry Potter. she is 27 now.
Where did you find the movies? Maybe I will get desperate or drunk enough one of these days to watch them.
Amazon Prime Video
Thanks, but that's not going to happen where I live. Maybe I can find them on the torrent sites.
They are certainly not worth paying for!
I just saw some of it.
I saw some of one of them, not sure which. It was sort of weird. I will pass until I can find for free.
Haven't seen it, but can basically guarantee the book is better...
I am so fucking bored and tired of being caged up. :rage:
I want out.
But the cops are out there waiting for people that have no need to be out of their houses.
Have you considered having sex with your sister in law across the street? That'll mix things up. I don't mean to be rude with the suggestion, just brainstorming, hoping to help out a brother in need with a solution to the doldrums.
Then I go across the street and have sex with my sister in law, you know, just to mix it up. A man can't live off chicken, beans, and cat stories. He really can't.
OKkk, that was unexpected.
But I think it might be safer to take the dogs for a walk, maybe let them chew on a few passersby even. At least handling the bruits would be exercise.
And thank you for willingness to help a person in need, even if taking your advice could get someone killed. It is the thought that counts.
Poor little kid your son. He either has to put up with a dad that does not look after him properly or a dad that sucks at telling bedtime stories.
And just because you are shagging your sister in laws does not mean you should try to justify your despicable actions by getting other to do the same. I am going to keep a close eye on you, me thinks that you are up to no good. :eyes: :chin:
:cheer:
That's a horrible thing to suggest. We're social-distancing for a reason you know. Gotta wait for the virus to die out first and then we can get back to fucking our sister-in-laws. Although maybe not across the street. Unless you bring out a mattress or something that would really hurt.
What's going on in the South Pole?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/At_the_Mountains_of_Madness
There is something to it.
I haven't actually read that one, just know it takes place at the south pole...do enjoy the Lovecraft mythos though, just now finishing up The Dreamquest of Unknown Kadath. :death:
   Oooommmmgggg!!!!
Now that is funny :cheer:
Totally wiped out by Coronavirus due to shirking off calls for social distancing.
This was documented in The Thing.
Is the pain a symptom if a lack of recognition? A lack of definition to the self? Is it a desperate, flailing attempt to claw one's way ouy of oblivion? To escape the event horizon (as I heard it put)?
Fuckit, I'm going back to my old drug habit.
Why didn't this comment come up in my mentions?
Anyway, yeah the Walmart kid was funny when he said he was a libertarian but then said he'd happily comply with the Feds. Felt bad for him when the other guy accidentally shot his brains out in front of him tho.
I’ve been noticing the lack of quote notifications but thought it was intentional. Must be a glitch in the system.
"Thank you for your thoughts. DNP likely does not have anti cancer properties, but this has not necessarily been researched. Regarding covid, this virus and its disaster are serious. I'm not sure where it is going..."
Now what do you do when one person in your house does not play by the OCD/Alarmist rules? :chin:
More along the same lines...
