Hume says the opposite.

I don't conceive of 'nothing' as lack. Nor would I say Hegel does.
June 08, 2022 at 18:08
I do not read it that way. "Absolute Knowing" is more a criticism of Kant's subjective idealism.
June 08, 2022 at 18:02
That would be Kant. Added: I do not read Hegel as saying the dialectic ends.
June 08, 2022 at 17:58
I certainly did not allege that.
June 08, 2022 at 17:38
I see.
June 08, 2022 at 17:37
Subjectivism is that the thinker determines what is real. Idealism is actually quite a rare philosophy, which is like Berkeley's claim that the physic...
June 08, 2022 at 17:30
That's subjectivism, not idealism.
June 08, 2022 at 17:23
I think it does. Why do you think otherwise?
June 08, 2022 at 17:10
Fine. But I do not consider science to tell philosophy what is real.
June 08, 2022 at 17:09
Some think philosophy is just stating opinions. They would not think that of physics, but think there is nothing to learn about philosophy.
June 08, 2022 at 16:49
Sounds fair.
June 08, 2022 at 16:37
So, time for God to flood again, eh?
June 08, 2022 at 16:16
Bye.
June 08, 2022 at 16:13
Philosophy is a shared enterprise. There is nothing wrong with writing things that are personal, but there still needs to be some shared vocabulary.
June 08, 2022 at 15:53
Philosophy should be rational.
June 08, 2022 at 15:43
Hegel does mention Buddhism in the chapter I quoted from. What is outside the universe? Nothing. I think that is a meaningful idea.
June 08, 2022 at 15:39
If you're fine, I am fine.
June 08, 2022 at 15:09
Good point. Making up words and concepts does not allow for philosophy.
June 08, 2022 at 15:02
I am not a huge fan of Heidegger but I think he makes a valid point, following Hegel, that we do talk about nothing or nothingness and it is not a mea...
June 08, 2022 at 14:58
Yes, your exposition is accurate. I think Hegel is correct to point out that, "Nothing comes from nothing," is true only if you privilege being as an ...
June 08, 2022 at 14:52
Which is the problem. I think Hegel makes a good point, that the negation of being is nonbeing, but that is a fallacy.
June 08, 2022 at 14:45
Thinking about nothing as an object.
June 08, 2022 at 14:23
Yes, a wrong definition.
June 08, 2022 at 14:22
I don't understand why metaphysics gives some people conniption fits. It is like arguing since we cannot determine what is always the right thing to d...
June 08, 2022 at 05:08
Humans are no more or less moral than anything else in the universe.
June 08, 2022 at 04:45
Does not matter one way or the other.
June 08, 2022 at 04:36
I value health; this is a natural need, and a value. I value philosophy--I do not have to.
June 08, 2022 at 04:27
Both.
June 08, 2022 at 03:39
No problem. I will just ignore you from now on.
June 08, 2022 at 02:40
How a debate over 'nothing' split Western philosophy apart "Nothing," it turns out, is really quite something. As in the concept of nothingness. So mu...
June 08, 2022 at 02:37
And no one who disputes you is allowed? Okay.
June 08, 2022 at 02:22
Or, thoughts in the mind of God. Another forum of idealism.
June 08, 2022 at 01:48
Could you explain what that means?
June 08, 2022 at 00:52
Sorry, I do not understand what you're saying here.
June 07, 2022 at 22:38
I don't know what you mean by "prediction." Leibniz said nothing in the form of a prediction.
June 07, 2022 at 20:44
Not a prediction. He gave arguments. And he was correct.
June 07, 2022 at 20:40
Yes. Leibniz saw the incoherence of the idea of absolute time and space in Newton.
June 07, 2022 at 20:36
Why? Leibniz conceived the relativity of space and time about 200 years before Einstein showed the math.
June 07, 2022 at 20:27
What message?
June 07, 2022 at 19:35
Not a joke. A virus can spread by being near people.
June 07, 2022 at 19:33
Just as long as you never have contact with other humans.
June 07, 2022 at 19:03
No. Aristotle's Metaphysics (a word he never uses) is about first principles of philosophy--not "Human Nature."
June 07, 2022 at 18:10
I don't know why people start threads bashing philosophy.
June 07, 2022 at 17:51
Good. bye bye
June 07, 2022 at 17:13
Sounds FOX fake news.
June 07, 2022 at 16:56
Metaphysics is a popular specialty for philosophers at universities.
