Help me test

Jamal October 20, 2015 at 20:53 12450 views 26 comments
I need to set this site up with a nice domain name before it's good to go [EDIT: already done], and some testing is required. Feel free to help me test by posting, replying, etc. In particular, let me know if you think anything is missing or problematic in terms of functionality or features, by posting a reply in this discussion.

Looks nice to me. :) Aaah, we have saved drafts. That's good.

Reply to bert1 Hey bert, yeah that's a great feature. Went somewhere else on the site, came back here and my part-composed reply was still here. (Y)

Probably a somewhat rare feature of online forums.

As for videos, it's not only youtube you can embed:

Wouldn't be surprised if Discourse and NodeBB supported it, but I've discounted them as they're a big hassle to set up. Otherwise, adding features like that is the advantage of hosting your own software. Not a dealbreaker though, I wouldn't think.

Wonder if I can..

Attaching a small snippet of html which has mathjax in it, did seem to work, albeit a slightly more cumbersome way to share formulae.
Clicking the attachment opens a separate window, your browser, depending on local configuration.

What about domain names? I propose: Wosret and the philosophiles.

I've been terribly busy in my personal life but just wanted to let you know I support this initiative. I don't have much trust in the old PF site due to the manner in which the new owner is handling it - which is all rather unprofessional.

And this is the reason why I'm busy:

Reply to Benkei Thanks Benkei! Hope to have a domain sorted out soon, and any help getting people over here is appreciated.
Benkei October 21, 2015 at 07:33 #34
By the way, I have a website I don't use anymore called nousluminous.com (roughly intended as "we illuminate/knowledge lights us/we light ourselves" if you mix up the latin and greek) and the webhosting I have now is for 300 MB and 7 GB data traffic per month. The website and hosting costs me 20 EUR a year.

If I go to 30 EUR a year it would be 3 GB disk space and 50 GB data traffic per month.

I don't know how that relates to other offers out there but it's been stable.

Reply to Benkei Thanks very much Benkei, that's a good deal! But this forum here is ready pretty much out of the box, they take care of all the hosting issues, and it will be scalable and just look after itself (technically I mean). I'm going to set up subscriptions so people can help me with the monthly $49.
Baden October 21, 2015 at 10:06 #45
Cool, a few bucks each a month would be well worth it.
Jamal October 21, 2015 at 10:12 #46
There's a built-in subscription thing I can turn on that could be perfect for donations. I'll work it out some time in the next few days.
Moliere October 21, 2015 at 11:09 #49
Hey -- that "Drafts" feature is pretty cool tho. I've lost posts before. Having that save in "real time" is pretty nice.
Jamal October 21, 2015 at 12:09 #58
Reply to Moliere Yep, I bloody love it.
