I know the feminist "awakening" that has taken place over time has been lamenting the conspicuous absence of women in the scientific, philosophical and other intellectual fields for quite some time I believe.
I don't want to say this but those who take this route to girl power are sorely mistaken and if it reveals anything it must be that feminists, if I can call them that, are suffering from a very bad case of psychotic delusion. Why? One question: does the mind have gender?
Are there many female philosophers or is it more of a "good old boys" club?
Penelope Maddy is the foremost philosopher of set theory. Patrica Churchland is another name I happen to know. Luce Irigaray is a famous feminist philosopher. There are many others, these are just three off the top of my head.
We work for the same reason we think, with the belief, if not latent hope, that we'll end up having to do much less of it in the future. You can expand on that as you may.
Some of my favorite philosophers, of any gender, are Elizabeth Anscombe, Sabina Lovibond, Jennifer Hornsby, Sarah Broadie, Susan Hurley, Ruth Groff, Karen Crowther and Victoria McGeer.
Judith N Shklar kind courtesy of @Banno. Only a woman's heart could've penetrated the dense fog of male power struggles to see what's really going on underneath the hood of patriarchical societies where the Devil's work is done in the name of God. :joke:

Perhaps I'm deluded. God knows.

Original and significant female philosophers?
Are There Female Philosophers?
These past topics should have popped up when you were typing in the title.
