Chapter XXII - The Individual and the World from Dewey's book Democracy and Education

I find philosophy most powerful when it renders an idea acutely and concisely. Usually, for me, this takes the form of a sentence the bursts forth in a context. Sometimes a paragraph.

I found this entire chapter from Dewey to be a barrage of insight. To me, it is one of those, you get out of it what you bring to it readings. If you are familiar with the basic orientations of Greek philosophy, scholasaticism, enlightenment, and modern thought then Dewey's description of the evolving dialectic of individualism/mind and nature/society will be enjoyable.

It's an easy read, and Dewey's rhetoric is excellent. I hope some folks will enjoy this as much as I do.
