If this is how you discuss freely - this is no different then any form of suppression.. Good luck!

I thought you didn't care? Also, you said I could if I wanted to (not that I have; someone else is having all the fun).

Well I certainly didn't give anyone permission to delete my highly original and insightful responses.

I think there is a place where deleted threads go right, at least with the old PF they did not outright censor dissenters.

Reply to unenlightened welcome to the real world of censorship and propagandda

I deleted it. Feedback threads are fine but that was four pages of pure infantilism. I'll soon get rid of this one too, if it remains that way.

Reply to m-theory 'Fraid not here. Or at least, nowhere public. I believe the admins (but not us moderators) can see deleted (and maybe pre-edited) posts, although I don't know if they have an option to restore them. That's a question for jamalrob and Baden.

Reply to StreetlightX you should excercise your power here too, delete it... like you delete your problems in real life right? Oh crap, you can't do that ?!?

That is too bad.

I guess that is the price you pay for letting some one else go through all the trouble of starting a social forum where philosophy is discussed.

I know if I were the person that put in all that effort, I would do things a bit differently.

Tisk tisk.

Reply to m-theory Don't forget also that this forum runs on completely different software to the old one. If the PlushForums team haven't created any functionality to publicly view deleted posts (which I'm pretty certain they haven't), there's nothing jamalrob can do about it. We're restricted far more than Paul ever was.

Sigh

I just hate the idea that people can content themselves that they were outright censored because they were heretics.

With a banned threads area the site moderators and users can say..."No, you were not censored, your post just failed to contribute productively to the serious pursuit of discussing philosophy in the main threads.".

I guess I like the idea because it seems like it is a way to take the higher road than outright deletion.

Reply to m-theory You cannot prevent folks from holding preposterous self-agrandising views. But I would point out how feeble it is to call censorship every time a publisher rejects your submissions, especially when one is being gratuitously offensive and confrontational, and at the same time plagiarising.

Reply to m-theory Great idea but that would be predicated with the willingness to take hits as a moderator/owner. Will take great humility to pull that off.
Hanover January 04, 2017 at 14:58 #44154
Reply to Lower Case NUMBERS If those in charge are so dishonorable, why sully yourself interacting with them?

You could do as we did when faced with this very dilemma and start your own site, or you could just keep whining.

It has nothing to do with humility. We're going to take hits either way, but without the software allowing us to easily have a publicly viewable junk area where deleted posts go, it's just not an issue. However, if anyone wants to query why a post of theirs was deleted, just PM me and I'll check it out for you. Also, everyone has the option of starting a feedback discussion where they can openly contest any moderating decision and have their deleted post viewed there if they so wish.

Be nice if you'd do the same for the laws of spelling and grammar. Or should we clean that up for you too, your humble majesty?
