To my knowledge, the way some philsophers have approached the issue (the hard problem of consciousness), certain aspects of our mind are thought to be evidence for a non-physical side to our existence - soul?!

Unless "philosophers" competently define what they mean by "mind" and "soul," what they think about those subjects is about as relevant as your garbage collectors' opinions.
