intentional communities

Hippie communes. Religious communities. Cults. People dropping out of society and living together.

I'm sort of interested in doing this. But I wonder why more people aren't. Instead of trying to influence the electorate, why not put your money where your mouth is and create your own society? On the other hand, maybe it's enough for most people to win a "moral victory" by posing as being higher-minded than the grimy, stupid world.....
