How to avoid procrustes' fate?

Hospitality is what some would call serious business. In Greek mythology, the hero Theseus defeats a monster by the name of Procrustes, whose 'trick' involves luring guests into his home and then murdering them by forcing them to match a 'one-size-fits all' bed. Procrustes is obviously intentionally evil, but one might imagine a well-intended but profoundly misguided hospitality AI (or a bureaucracy run haywire) committing a similar grave offense. While people like Procrustes are thankfully rare in the real world, one can imagine that a whole spectrum offenses might accidentally be inflicted, by completely ordinary people, without their being aware of it. What measures could one take to avoid being an 'accidental Procrustes' at some level (or, from a host's standpoint, an 'accidental Penelopean suitor')?

By forgiving the apparent misdeeds of others and contemplating that their apparent misdeeds are merely a reflection of your own misgivings rather than that of said persons.
