Essay Writing Fun

I like sushi May 07, 2019 at 18:07 2950 views 12 comments
I’m writing an essay titled “Perceptions of Experience and Experiences of Perception”. The task is to write an essay (max. 2000 words) and then post here, and/or exchange with other members, and offer feedback and editing.

If anyone is interested in taking part just post here or PM me.

My purpose is to simply improve and explore ways of expressing complex ideas. This essay being about the use and limits of language and how to express ideas more fully.

Note: Don’t expect anything special or particularly well written. It is a means for riffing ideas and experimenting with writing techniques.

This is something that has surprised me across forums. I thought that people with a genuine interest in some given subject would jump at the chance to test themselves and practice expressing ideas as well as giving feedback to other writers.

To date, over the past two years, not a single person has shown anything other than a passing interest. It truly baffles me.

I guess I am one of those who expressed a passing interest here :

Perhaps it just needs someone like yourself to start the ball rolling ?
Right now, it takes me all my time to read and respond to a few threads.
Good Luck.

I’ve written 2000 words. Going to smash out around another 500-1000 and then edit it back down to 2000.

It’s basically just me riffing. I’m open to any theme anyone would like to suggest. I’m going to start smashing one of these out every 1-2 weeks from now on.

I guess I’ll post them in “general philosophy”? Maybe I’ll just selects bits of text for an OP and then attach a file or something? Not sure really. I just want to make myself write longer pieces and play with ideas and styles.

If someone wants to throw out another idea for an essay do so before I come up with one myself.

Thanks

Would you do an essay on Sushi?

Reply to Shamshir No.

I think I’ll do something about Ontology and Epistemology ... not sure yet, so suggestions are welcome. Will start next one Wednesday at the latest.

Reply to Shamshir I’m just about done on rough draft of next ‘essay’. The vague subject is “Divergence of Emotion and Logic”.

I will do Sushi next. I think I can have fun with it and not entirely sure where it will lead. Probably something about commercialization, etymology and pop-culture. Maybe, for a laugh, something akin to Orwell’s take on the perfect cup if tea too if the mood takes me :)
