A boys search for happiness
A boy, smaller than his peers, once said to himself, after years of being pushed around; "Enough, I want to have what those other boys have, i want to have the attention of girls and other boys , i want them to like and respect me".
So he began training his physique and became a, for his age , a small but strong boy. It worked. He got the respect of others for his muscular physique.
The boy always liked to be in solitude, divulging in things that other boys simply would not understand. He was very interested in religion, poetry and philosophy, he also liked to play games in his free time that
other kids didnt like.
Altough he gathered the respect of others he still was shy and didnt speak much, so he started working on himself to be more outgoing and confident. He was finally seen as a popular kid, but with that popularity that he gained, he also gained the envy of his other peers. Which resulted in his peers sometimes poking fun at him or not respecting him. The boy began using violence to gather the respect that was lost, and it worked, for a long time.
The boy has made a grave mistake, thinking that violence, or better said the threat of violence was the best way of getting the respect of his peers, he became known as a very agressive and violent person that could fight good.
Through his other peers he got introduced to illegal activities such as the illegal selling of substances. The boy began to sell those substances which gathered him even more respect from his peers, he was very respected among everybody, and everybody thought that he did not fear anybody. But that was not the truth, the boy was still scared, he just did not show his fear.
His illegal activities has made him famous in his town, everybody knew him and he liked it. The boy liked the fear that he could make people feel, and his money was piling up from his buisiness in selling illegal substances.
The boy felt like he had won at life, every women liked him and every boy either feared or liked him. The boy, even though he had everything that he wanted, did not feel fulfilled. He divulged in hedonism, buying short momentarily pleasures or materialistic objects that made him happy for some time. But at his heart, the boy did not feel happy and he knew it.
The boy began using the substances that he sold, at first only sometimes, but as time went on he began to use them daily, just to feel happy. It worked, he felt always happy, except that it didnt.
The happiness that he felt was short lived and the boy realized that after some time. After a fight, that was caused because of his buisiness with other criminals, he was left with a broken skull and a big scar on his face. And during that time he could not make money, the boy hit rock bottom. No money and his so called friends did not help him, they thought his time was over and it was time for a new criminal to be at the top.
This hurt the boy badly as he thought those were his best friends, he saw them as his brothers.
The boy learned a valuable lesson: That even your best friends will betray you, if their own head is on the line.
The boy was very sad, but not because he lost all his money, but because his friends betrayed him.
The boy went to his older brother. who always loved him very much and cared for him since he was a child. The older brother took him under his wing, and helped him.The older brother helped the boy overcome the mental struggles that he had and the boy felt like a blind person that could see, he realized that happiness depends on the quality of your thoughts, and not money or materialistic objects. The boy lived with his brother in solitude and read a lot of books. He trained with even more vigor and started to put his hatred aside for the people that wronged him. He learned another lesson: That the suffering that he went through, only made him a stronger person. He forgave everybody that wronged him and put his hatred aside, but most importantly, he forgave himself for what he has done, for all the suffering he has caused and all the pain that he has caused. The boy analyzed his past and his past choices and actions and he learned that:
He never truly was himself, in the pursuit to be liked he took on a different identity and he did not even realize it.
The boy, from looking at his past had a new view at life that, in his eyes made him a better person:
1. The boy learned to not care what others think about him, he cant please everybody. And not every person that he meets will like him, and thats okay. There is no need to put on a mask to impress other people or to get liked by other people.
2. The boy stopped looking at what other people are doing and stopped comparing himself to them, the boy learned that to be truly happy at life you have to be the best version of yourself, and not to try what other great people have done, those great people are great because they became the best version of themselves, not because they imitated somebody.
3. The boy learned to treat everybody with respect, it doesnt matter who that person is or if that person does not like the boy.
4. The boy learned that holding onto negative emotions such as hatred, fear, or jealousy only hurts the boys soul.
5. The boy learned that he does not know everything and that life is a constant state of trial and error, of learning and experiencing, of failing and succeding.
The boy, after 20 years finally found happiness, and could say after all those years that he grew up to become a man.
